Offline | Not really something to be proud of but I have to laugh to avoid getting angry... I received my first speeding ticket in over ten years today in my new MCS with 319 miles on the odometer...anyone out there get a ticket sooner than this? buying a radar detector tomorrow...wish I had bought it yesterday... Offline | I'm 42 years old and have never had a speeding ticket Dave (I've been pulled over twice on my Harley, once in an old Plymouth, once in a minivan and once in my Mini - somehow I think my English accent and being very polite has something to do with them not writing me up) |

Offline | Actually, I thought I got flashed just a couple hours after pick-up. I was in traffic and never got anything in the mail so maybe for once in my life it was the other guy instead of me. Now this is fun: |

Offline | Where you in a school zone or something? I don't get it. What other circumstances lead to being banned? It seems crazy to me! Are you a teenager on a graduated license? Dave Last edited by Dave : Feb 16th, 2004 at 08:55 PM. |

Offline | About a mile from my house there is a long, downhill straight, sea on one side, soaring cliffs on the other, no houses, people or obstructions and perfect visibility. Either end of this straight are suburbs, houses and infrastructure of all types. In fact the only thing that's common to all areas is, yes you guessed it......the speed limit. It's 50kph (30mph) the whole way and it's here that on my fateful day 3 days after taking possesion of my car that I was stopped at 101kph, just over 60mph, The police car was unmarked, the policeman jubilant. It went like this. "Step out of the car please sir and hand me your driving licence and keys" Which I did. "I've just recorded your vehicle travelling in excess of 101kph, as that speed is more than double the posted speed limit I am hereby confiscating your licence and keys to your vehicle with immediate effect" I was given a lift home, as I was local, and my wife was allowed to drive the car home. The ban is mandatory (although of course the police can use their discretion) and since police quotas have been introduced it is the the accepted norm. My saving grace was that had I not been running my car in/warming it up then I could have been going quicker still. |

Offline | Speedynz - 30mph over is quite a lot - but . . .that totally sucks! They'd never be able to pass laws like that over here (US). Sorry to here it! One of the times I got pulled over (on my Harley - ended up successfully fighting it in court actually) they said I was doing 95mph in a 60mph zone (which I probably was). Cop told me I should try slowing down a bit . . . I guess I wasn't going twice the legal limit Dave |

| MINI2 Regular | Ironically I got a speeding ticket a week ago when driving my wife's VW Golf! Glad I was driving the Golf otherwise if I would be in the MCS is suspect I would had my licence suspended for a year.... Mind you I much prefer twistie roads than maximum speed runs on highways but when the conditions are safe It's impossible to resist to speed up things a bit just for a short while. I never would get a speeding ticket while driving inside towns, it's dangerous, stupid and it isn't fun! But i've been reading about the plight of UK and speeding cameras and I synpathise with you! Bad system! |

Offline | Although I'm by no means glad to hear about the misfortune of others these stories reassure me I am not the only such victim. Banned after three days has to be considered the record holder...I'd be devastated if I were banned from driving a brand new MINI... At least my copper was nice enough to reduce the speed listed on my ticket to 50 MPH in a 40 zone even though he clocked me at 56. A friend mentioned that tickets of less than 10mph over the limit might not effect my insurance rates...anyone know if this is true? |

Offline | so a tip for all of you : keep always 3 different driving licences from different countries (if you can and change country as often as me), I quite get speed ticket with every vehicle which I am controlling except the airplane ![]() when the police stops you pretend not to understand the language showing the foreign license, be polite, say that you are sorry and just had a fight with your wife, it mainly works ![]() by the way no ticket so far with my MCS for the first 4000 km. |
