Offline | shud I change my Cooper for an S I got a sept 03 53-reg Cooper to Cooper S spec: Chili Pack, Indi Blue 17" alloys, Air con, ASC+T alloy patina cd player cd BOOST trip computer alarm system tlc etc. I have been quotes £5,500 to upgrade to a new version of the real thing a Cooper S with same option plus visability pack. My cars done 9,000 miles and have a price of £12,250 which seems low after 6months. Would I get more private. Is this a good deal as I reckon the Cooper S will be worth a bit more in three years. Also my main concern is fuel economy. Doing 18,000 miles per year it is an important factor. I get 36.2mpg out of my Cooper quite a bit below what the manufacterer says so as the Cooper does 33.6mpg will I be expecting mid 20s. I would appreciate your view on this and how I can reduce the price difference to change as it is an important factor. Thanks for your help |

Offline | Given your car is fairly new I would wait a while before changing. You are probably doing it at the worst time in terms of depreciation v length of ownership. I'd guess your car would have cost ~£15k new so it looks like you would make a bit loss trading it at £12250. Have you tried other dealers - there can be a bit variation between them. Offline | Matt18 i am in exactly the same boat, i really want an S, but just feel like the dealer is taking me for a ride! My car was £15k new, and i have had it 8-9 months, and they have offered me the same money, as they have you. And you me it is a joke, lost 3k in 8 months, give me a break for a car that is ment to be in demand so much. So i am sort of stuck on what to do now, i might keep the Cooper for abit longer, then start looking again!! I am just have the joys of buying some new RunFlat tyre's, where Mini really that stupid to put tyre's on that are so expensive, just give us a bloddy spare wheel!! Also the dealership[ said they will not let me trade the car in with non RunFlat tyre's on, just getting more and more stupid if your asking me!! |

Offline | That is crap!!! My MC cost £15500 new and i've had it for 2 years and 25K miles and my dealer gave me £12250! Which is exactly what the cap guide says it's worth. Get an online valuation from the cap website (don't know the address) which will cost you about £3 and go armed to your dealer, or any dealer. Try central london ones. Saying all of this, there is a lot of people changing to an MCS at the minute, which will push residuals down. ![]() Leeroy Mini Cooper S - The Best Fun on More Than 2 Wheels! |

Offline | Try here for a valuation http://www.glass.co.uk/uk/en/ You can enter every detail in terms of the MINIs optional extras. Costs £2.95 but worth it when you present it to your dealer and ask why they are trying to ream you !!! Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | Just valued my Cooper on the Glass's website... was 15k new, 11,000 miles now 8 months old... Trade in excellent - £13250 Trade in average - £12000 Retail - £14,600 Don't think it's unfair to ask for £13,800 private sale, or at least £13k part ex, considering the garage won't need to do anything apart from clean it before selling it!! They'll be putting it up for £14,500, so that's a profit of £2000 if we accept their £12,500 offer!! Kaz ( ) K A Z M I R E |

Offline | Matt18 I don't think I have seen better than 30 MPG on my MCS in over 12 months. I wouldn't buy one if MPG is a concern for you, it's just not made to drive slowly or frugally!!!!! Why didn't you buy an S when you bought the cooper 6 months ago???? Just curious??? |

Offline | yeah I agree sounds like a good deal to me, what did u pay for the Cooper originally? Also I take it you have taken Insurance into account I can't imagine that that will be too healthy on the pocket? If you want an S you won't regret it. |

Offline | Hi Matt. Sounds like it's been a bit frustrating dealing with the dealers.... most of us know about that one ... .. great cars, awkward dealers/salesmen. Having said that, I've deal with a scottish guy at park lane mini - stuart - and he's probably the most decent one I've come across so far (that can't be said for all the park lane sales people though) and if that's the guy you spoke with, I'd personally not hesitate to deal with him.Hope it all works out for you. |

Offline | only a few extra hundred til i get 2yrs ncb. then shud be bout £1800. not too bad. is the cooper s that much better than the cooper. also in three years I reckon I'll get more for an s Look above at my spec. The car cost £15000. Basic price before delivery etc. was £14,300. Dealer said take the VAT off for a year old model with above average mileage and thats what they offer. Hence about £12500 for a year old or £13200 now. However they cannot befinately hold this price. Don't know whether to plump for an s or hang on to mine for a while. Is the performance that much better than the cooper or will i soon adapt to it like i did with the cooper. the cooper isn't bad but i crave more torque and a bit more to end bang. |

Offline | Matt, the MCS was my first performance car so I can only speak from this limited personal experience but when I test drove the MC, I came away thinking "lovely car but shame it has no oomph". When I took out the MCS for a test drive, I fell in love with it because I knew that the car not only looked good but it felt fantastic to drive. So, despite doubling the insurance and halving the mpg, I chose the MCS. Four months on and I still feel the same way about my MCS. Still love it, still grin ear-to-ear at times and still take a look back at it every time I walk away .. . HOWEVER, what the MCS has is soo good, I want more of it and am now saving up for the WKS. |

Offline | I have never driven an S, i don't really want to as I can't afford to by the car with all the kit I want and to insure it - Trouble is if I drive one I know I'll want one, hence never driving one (Sure that made sense)I say go for it, if in the back of your mind you can afford it, you can, only young once ![]() |

Offline | my regular car is a '04 MCS, but its back at the dealers today for my schnitzer bits to be fitted and as a replacement for the day ive been given a gold cooper. its relatively high spec but i must say i am so unimpressed with the ride. its slow, hands like a sack of spuds, relatively floppy gearbox...... i cant wait for my S back i proberbly only have these feeling cuz i love my MCS and havre got use to it now, but i hope the dealer rings me soon because i really havent enjoyed the ride home in the cooper. DO THE SWAP M8, U WONT REGRET IT |
