Question Cooper trade in for S

Does anyone have any ideas what the trade in is like for a new Cooper against a Cooper S.

My dealer has put me down in the diary for a test drive of the S when it arrives and I will naturally ask him for a trade in price. My car is ONLY 4 weeks old (at the moment) but as I am not even on the waiting list for an S I reckon I will have my Cooper for a good few months yet.

And that brings me to another point - do I really need the S? I love the Cooper but feel I would love the S even more. Decisions, decisions!

thoughts are running through my head if I should get a Cooper first, given it's only a 2 month wait at my dealer at the moment. Then I could trade it for the S, which is about a 5-6 months after. I would probably stick with the wait since I don't want to spoil myself with the handling of the Cooper and driving the S would not feel that much more different other than the additional 'go' with the higher hp. I'd rather experience the S from scratch

Supposed to be pretty good, well that's what my dealer promised!
Had my car a couple of weeks now and gonna get my S in September. Dealer said at worst it would depreciate 1,500 notes. Not bad I thought, slower depreciation than my old golf, so that's why I swapped and not regretting it at all

I love my Cooper but I will change to an S as I do find the Cooper does lack grunt at low revs. I haven't had the chance to run my Cooper at full thottle yet though, 500 miles to go before the run in period is over
Darn work keeps on getting in the way and spoiling things!

Sounds good to me Martin.

I'll just tell the dealer that the less he gives me for the Cooper, the less i have to spend on the 'S'

Don't buy the old trick from the dealer of them deducting the VAT. That's ********.

If they take your car for £12k they'll sell it for at least £13k. They won't need to charge VAT on it and probably make more money on it than a new car!

It's all about demand, supply, economics and all that crap.
If you take two similar cars, a brand new one and a second hand one say with only delivery milage, they are worth the same amount of money as people will be willing to pay probably the same amount for either because they're is no difference apart from one been "pre-owned".

Somebody please correct me if my logic is wrong as I haven't studied economics for at least 10 years!

Hang on...
I suppose you could haggle a better deal on the "pre-owned" one as the dealer has a better margin to work with, i.e the VAT.

Hmmmmm...
Anyone a car dealer who would like to shed light on this? I seem to be confusing myself

Cheers Basil, now I know my calling in life.
Can't really do much farming in London though and until they introduce a 4x4 mini, I think I'll stay in my current profession thank you very much!
I suppose been a farmer's got its plus points though - all those country lanes to blast around in

p.s I hope there are no "farmer" references in there, well not that I can notice. If there are I might as well get me wellies out and start work at 4a.m.!
