I have a 2003 MCS with 4700k. Lately I've noticed a whining sound(really loud) coming from the engine. No indicators or running problems ever. Is anyone else having this prob?

RTFAQ.

Could also just be turbo whine, if you're hearing it at higher revs.

Yes my 'S' does it, and I have heard many others, it is the power steering pump/motor, pretty loud sometimes.

Turbo whine? With a supercharger?

SGaryCooper, may pay to get it checked - could be a belt, power-steering fan or something. If it worries you, you should get it seen to

Probably supercharger whine.

But I want to know how you have 4,700,000 miles on a 2003 MINI already!!!

I notice the supercharger whine at around 3 000 RPM, its the kinda noise that will put a smile on your face. I enquired to the dealer about the whine asking if it was normal, and said that I wanted to keep it even if it wasnt !

The supercharger whine is pretty constant, you could have some problems with wheel bearings like I did, the noise was more noticeable on quiet roads and got loader the faster I went. *remember supercharger whine is noticeable above 3 000 rpm, so if you are in 5th/6th going fast and having revs under 3k and the noise is still quite loud get it checked out.
