Did it again! 471.8 miles on a tank

Ok, this is getting freaky...

Miles: 471.8
MPG (OBC): 35.1
MPG (Calc): 36.7
Avg Speed: 38.7

I think this is more to do with how you fill the tank as anything else. The fill prior to this, I topped off the talk with almost 15 gallons of gas. I didn't think the Mini had a tank that big! If I average the last two tanks, I get closer to what I was expecting (between 32 and 34mpg).

You must drive very "non Cooper S like" :-))

Hi:

amazing,...

I am getting 9,9 l/100 km,... 23,75 miles / US gal = 28,53 miles / imp gal

But I am not driving to save the fuel ;-)

Did you fill up at the top of Pike's Peak, and then coast to, say, Kansas?

Impressive, but I wouldn't too that too often, as you will increase the chance of drawing rubbish at the bottom of the fuel tank into the engine over time. You really must have been on fumes at the end of the last tank.

The most I've yet to get (in the three months I've had Verde) is about 390-ish. I was getting less but check my air pressure and it was super high. I made sure the tires were at about 30/35 psi and it went up close to 400 mpg.

Bujt 471? You sure you didn't put more gas in and forget to reset it? Super cool if you really did get this gas mileage!

I thought about that, but if I was getting bad gas I would have the problem anyways (since the crud would be at the bottom of the tank). Plus all of the stations I've seen around here have filters on the line (obstensively to remove the crud before you pump).

I *usually* fill up when the red light goes on, and top off the tank. The first time, I did 431 miles or so and had a range of 10 miles. This time, it was 471.8 miles with a range of 20 miles.

I'm sure I didn't put in extra gas (I log my mileage every fill-up), but my last fill-up was topped off at almost 15 gallons. How I got that much gas in the car is anyones guess!

Close. My commute for the past 6 weeks includes a very long hill that I coast down-- (CT34 from Newtown to Stevenson's Dam in Monroe/Seymour).

Unfortunately, I also have to drive up the same hill (grin).

Probably it evens out.

You got it-- 900rpm, in neutral going downhills (grin).

I do the majority of my driving highways and country roads (no stop signs, moderately high speeds). Get up to 5th or 6th fast and stay there for 3/4 of an hour or so at 2500rpm.

That's crazy. What's wrong with your car? I don't even get 470 KM's to a tank.

I thought the tank was something like 12.75 U.S. gallons? Doesn't your warning light come on at about 300 miles? Then you drive almost 200 more?

This past tank, the warning light went on around 420 miles. The gas guage didn't move at all until I had gone about 200 miles.

...I find this most intriguing. The average I do is 22.4 mpg! How you people manage to control yourself is beyond me!

I need a support group, is there one here I can join?

I could easily believe those figures then

I have this separation between my commute to and from work, and going out driving for fun. I can get in the car and be happy driving the speed limit on the 50 miles to/from work.

Then again, I like more twisty roads when I'm doing runs for pleasure (grin). Even then, I was driving CT34 from Newtown to New Haven the past six weeks and still doing well.

Just checked my BRAND NEW owners manual....it specifies 13.2 gals and a 2 gal "reserve" in the data section, which would get you up to 15 gals....However, in the earlier chapter which talks about gasoline fills, it states the capacity as 13.2 gal of which 2 gal is a reserve (or something like that...the manual is home now), as if the reserve is part of the 13.2 gal?

I thnk the bottomline is its great you're getting the mileage, but don't keep pushing it as odds are your luck could run out someday!
