Worth waiting for LSD?

I was all ready to trot into my dealer and trade my all-black Cooper for a H/B S and then I read the news about the LSD.

Now, unlike my Cooper, I do intend to keep the S for a few years and perhaps go down the JCW/Hargte in a year or so instead. So, is it worth me waiting until January (only another 2 months wait) & adding an LSD to my growing spec list? Will it really have an big effect on handling?

Would be good to hear your opinions!

Also, my dealer is quoting 6 months for delivery of a 2005 S. Is this normal? And if not, please let me know where can I get one quicker! (UK Location)

Cheers

I think it will be worth waiting for. I couldnt wait the time period though.

Dont know if youd notice the handling difference greatly in normal driving, but definately on the track.

6 months sounds right. With the implementation of the convertible to the model line-up and the obvious pre-orders for the 2005 MCS, its probably not surprising waiting times will increase.

Good for resale though on current cars.

But thats just my opinion

Don't get me wrong, my '04 MCS is the best thing since sliced bread, but it does tend to spin the inside front wheel when accelerating out of slower corners because of its lack of a limited slip diff. If I was without a MINI and was ordering now, I would absolutely wait for the LSD option, even knowing how many more sleepless nights I would have because of the extra wait! IMO it's worth it, ESPECIALLY if you plan on increasing the engine's power output.

whoa whoa whoa!!!!

Think about what your saying. 9 months to wait for a car you could have now??? That is ludicrous. Buy an 04. A quaife LSD with install will not be over 2k$, and how much is BMW gonna mark up an expensive, hard part to get to in the first place (ive helped with the install of a clutch\lsd\flywheel twice).

I would say is it worth having a quaife over what BMW will put in? Unless its a quaife or KAAZ, yes. And i dont know much about KAAZ, but they make good import stuff, so it shouldnt be bad if they made something, not that i think they are, but those are the only 2 companies i would buy an LSD from aftermarket.

Personally, after you have the LSD, the dealership could not give you much grief about it (stateside) because if they see it fit to put in their 05 cars, then it should not cause problems in your tranny (cuz its not changing). So warranty isnt an issue.

Personally you have to ask yourself, is it worth waiting the 9 months and saving anywhere from 500$ to no dollars to have a BMW part?

NO!

Plus, splurging is fun .
