Simple realy,

non-metalic or base colours as they are sometimes known are your white, red and yellow among others, the metalic colours black, indi blue, silver ect have metalic flakes in them (metalic paint) these are actualy tiny pieces of metal that are added to the paint to give it the 'glistening look' on certain light. i.e sunlight.

Also metalic paint has an extra layer called clearcoat, this is obviouly to protect the base coat, where as the base colour does not....still following?

This does not mean that the metalic paint is better in any way, it is just a personnal choice what colour people require..

Hope this has helped

If I'm not mistaken, all MINI colors have a clearcoat including non-metalics as do most current car maker's paint schemes.

I will quite happily stand corrected if this is the case

I work for a large japaneese car manafacturer in Derbyshire and they dont, is it because they dont like spending money

Ahhh thats why tey are getting all the warranty claims for paint chips then

OK i better shut up now else i will get sacked!!!!!!!!!!!!!
