Offline | Any CA Mini buyers pay less than MSRP for their new Cooper S? Please share your story! Like many other CA buyers, I went out of state to avoid the $1000-$2500 Cooper S dealer mark-up. For those of you in the biz, what techniques can CA buyers use to negotiate the best deal on a Mini? (Last day of the month walk in right before they close...etc.) ![]() |

Offline | One suggestion: Go to Long Beach MINI, put your name on the list, and wait for an MSRP car. You think the markups are high there in CA? Go to Desert MINI in Vegas--astounding! Upwards of $5 K for a JCW!! Anywho, to pay less than MSRP for a new MCS (if U can find them) right now is impossible, given the whacked supply/demand proportion for these cars, and the fact that the MCS has one of the lowest projected depreciation values of any car sold in America right now (right behind the BMW Z8 and M-B SLK AMG, according to JD Power 2003 survey). Excluvisity, name recognition and heritage, and low production numbers coupled with a used market at less than 5% are adding to the mystique.... There will be those who will respond and make U think the eastern half of the country is some kind of well-stocked MCS happy-land, where the old "end-of the month" for a bargin tactic will work here. It will not. This car is different. The western US is different. BMW defintely underestimated projected demand W of the Mississippi.... Any dealer who is selling U an MCS for MSRP, given all the factors, is doing you good. You may have to wait like the rest of us, but HEY pay down bills and save up for the down $$. And you may have noticed I didn't mention the MC--I imagine that perhaps with those yes some small nickle-dime discounts are available for cars in stock. Jimbo |

Offline | MSRP in Vegas I did the "beat Ca. markup" and got my MC at Desert Mini Las Vegas. Ordered in Feb. and picked it up in April. However at delivery, my MA said due to recent demand outstripping supply, mine was like the last one going for MSRP (he said his sales mgr was whinning, but they'd already committed to me for MSRP) Don't know about things recently. It'd be too bad if they were still marking up. ![]() |

Offline | Saved enough y going out of state to have the JCW kit installed!!!!! Local dealers would not budge from premium pricing even while I was counting out cash. Put my money back in my pocket, made a bunch of calls eventually placing an order with Mini of the Hamptons. I really like the MOTH attitude and approach; they are true Mini people. Ten weeks from date of order to SoCal!!!!! Poco Loco: '04 LY/B, Works MCS, S2933 |

Offline | You might want to call Moritz in Arlington Texas (or I guess any of the 5 Texas dealers) about ordering and buying the car there. but Moritz is close to DFW airport and you can fly in and pick it up and drive him home. "Mr Bridger" |

Offline | Got my MCS for MSRP with only a 3 month wait at Momentum Mini in Houston. But that was a year ago, I don't know if that has changed. Their prices haven't seemed to change much, but I don't pay attention as much as I did then. Its not CA, but if you don't mind the drive, its an option. Cooper S: Recently awarded the highest FunUnits per Dollar rating by JD Power and Associates. |
