Aux Input

Does anyone have the Aux Input and uses an ipod?
What kind of cable will I need? I imagine it doesn't come with any cables, just the input.

Thanks in advance

We use Sonic Blue stuff and all it requires is the mini plug on both ends.

Just a Male-Male 3.5mm plug..I got mine at Radio Shack, works fine.

Note some of the "fine-tuning" you may want to do, e.g. boost the song volume in iTunes to about 75-80%, that way the AUX input is at 3 or 4...and don't use the headphone output jack, it's attenuated and loses sound quality. Invest in the Belkin car adapter w/ a powered 3.5mm line out.

I've ordered a MCS for September with the Radio Boost, but will be looking into using my ipod as well. Does the Head unit have a 3.5mm input plug that i can connect directly into?

Cheers,

CooperID

i think it does

another thing i'm considering is a connector sold by mikey the mini which not only connects sound/power but allows ipod control through the multifunction steering wheel. remember, of course though that the new cd will play mp3 cd's ie 10cd's per cd
(unfortunetly mikey's website is not the easiest to get info from eg price etc!). i intend to phone/pm when i get the car. My dealer has been "looking into" the ipod/bluetooth question for the last two months with no result.

another question is as to whether if i connect via the aux socket will i also be able to connect a mobile phone preferably blue tooth as well-is this another connector?
(am having cd boost/sat nav/hk/mfsw)

Yeah, I was also looking at the Ice-link. Quite expensive at £130, but look really good, with the added control. I’ve also asked my dealer about a Bluetooth install for my phone, but he didn't seem to be too knowledgeable on the subject. I’m thinking of getting a specialist comms company to sort me out with something after I get the car.

If there was one extra that I could not live without on my MCS is the multi function steering wheel. I like my music and always changing tracks. MSFW allows me to keep my eyes on the road.

The Icelink lets you control your ipod through the msfw. I was looking for an ipod mini recently in america but everywhere is sold out !

I also have the nokia ck1w bluetooth system in my car, I advise you not to get the dealer to install this as they will rip you off. The quote I received was £300 more than buying everything in and getting it fitted.

If you are getting a sony HU then mikeythemini sells Icelink for it for £80 . In fact, he is probably the best person to talk to about any install. I didnt know that he had been in my car after my big install (unlike the sextons guy who gave a few deep scratches to my interior).

www.newministuff.co.uk or just pm him mikeythmini .

Cheers for the info... I managed to get one of the ipod minis from a friend who was in the States a month ago Highly recommended!! I have both now and hardly ever use my regular ipod the mini ones are just so portable, plus in silver will match the mini very well

I think I’ll be adding the MFSW to my growing spec list… the aero sides may have to wait a few months now . As for getting ripped of from the dealer on the Bluetooth… mine quoted £350+vat purely for parts… and wanted about a day to fit it… so you can imagine what the total was!!! I wish I was close enough to mikeythemini for him to do the installation, but being in Northern Ireland… it’s a long trip over. As far as the head unit goes, it’s going to be the Radio Boost, not sure what make it is.

yes i was going to fit an ice link, laser diffusors (have them in my golf) and blue tooth kit plus some other bits so want someone who knows what they're doing and guarantee the installation. BMW want £869 for a tracker horizon fitted!

A hidden installation is even more important in a convertible

CooperID : I installed my bluetooth kit, it didnt take too long although I was unsure about pulling pillars out etc... as this was the first time I had done it and didnt really know what I was doing.

As you have an ipod mini I would suggest that you dont actually need an aftermarket headunit, as you can always upgrade all of that at a later date.

And to the long journey to mikey's : When I had my new gearbox and brake discs / pads in, I was told about the running in period needed. We'll what would I do in that distance ? Take a trip to mikes to get all of my speakers fitted !

Im not sure on the miles and it may be a long trip, maybe you will be outside the run in period after you get back from mikes. Then the real fun begins !

no. but if you add the aux input adapter ($40 USD + $150 USD install) you can do that. seems a bit steep for the install. it only takes 30mins max.

cheers for the info Mini_Blake... as matter of interest, what bluetooth kit did you install?? I want a kit for my Sony Ericsson T610, but I need to program it for 2 phones. I don't want any cradle as i want to keep the phone in my pocket and use the voice activated dialing. It may be worthwile making that long drive to mikey's to get it all sorted by someone who knows what they are talking about...

Is that a BMW option or is it an aftermarket thing?

I think the aux cable that azimmerm is talking about is the one supplied by bmw, I think the $150 is for the fitting if you get it done at a dealer, I dont think you are charged if it is installed at the factory.

My bluetooth kit is the nokia ck1w.

Hi, i'm new, I just ordered my MCS 05 and I will get it in september, so i have a chance to change some of the things in my mini, can I order the AUX from factory? Does anyone know where the ouput is, if you get it done at the factory? Does the location of the AUX input is diferent in the MC 05?

I have an ipod, and i love it, and from what i been reding in some of the posts, the AUX is the best way to lisen to the ipod in my mini.

Cheers Mikey... As a matter of interest.. what happens if more than one of the phones are in range at the same time? Is there a preference to which one connect or can both accept incoming calls on the handsfree?

Also can you supply the kit and is it difficult to install?

Thanks
CooperID

Rentagas - please let me know what you don't like about my site
I thought all the parts were priced
We are busy working on an online secure shop at the mo
Then the fitting area will be upgraded
I would welcome feedback as it helps us improve

The Icelink lets you control your ipod through the msfw

I like the sound of that, can you post more info?
