United-Kingdom Driving The S

As some of you might know, ive started driving (even though im 15), and, Ive been out in a 1.6 Escort, but, I might be getting my forst chance to drive a Cooper S soon. I havent mastered the art of gettins the clutch/ accelerator balance right yet, but, once ive got going, Im alright. Is there anything I should be worrying about when Im driving the S, because my grandads Escort, has no supercharger

i don't mean to sound rude, or point out the obvious toooo much... but waiting 2 years and getting an instructor would probably be the easiest thing to do.

unless you're on private land of course

There no real difference that means u should b scared, just dont put ur foot flat to the floor, atleast to start with. I personaly think its a fairly easy car to drive, not like these old cars that fool to bits.

i first drove a MCS when i was 16, it wasnt to bad, jsut enjoy the ride

If you've fairly mastered the manual transmission, you should be able to get in any manual, and with a little practice on that particular car, be able to drive it well. The only difference will be clutch weight and the point at which it engages. The first time I drove a MINI was when I was 16 or 17 but I learned from the start on a manual so it wasn't too hard to get used to. My main difficulty at first was getting a clean disengage of the clutch while shifting gears because I was coming from a car with no torque and smooth shifts were easy. Just give it enough gas to engage the clutch but don't over rev.

Every car has a different throttle response and biting point on the clutch, if you know what the clutch is and the throttle is then it shouldn't be a problem driving car to car, you'll stall it sometime for sure....and remember there isn't much go below 2000rpm, but that doesn't mean you need to rev it more than 2000rpm, if you know what I mean.

Best of luck, the MCS is one of the most funnest drives i've had in a long time...

the kangaroo jumpin' is because the driver is lacking finesse with the clutch and accelerator movements...

Just keep practicing, you'll get it. It becomes second nature after a while.

I make all of my kids learn to drive a standard in an old beater. I don't want to have to put a new clutch in my car every time someone turns 15.

Remember to find some hills to practice your starts on.
Cause sure as can be the first time you need to there'll be somebody 6 inches from your back bumper.

Just keep practising.....it will all come together and you will wonder what all the fuss was about! Sounds like you know what to do.
