I had just taken a look at bmw.com and they have this new paddle shift system they are using on the M cars. I remember there was some talk about a paddle shift option was to be available on the cooper S. Does anyone know if this might be the same transmission kit that they are talking about?

Thanks
Jay

I doubt that the SMG transmission destined to be available in the new M3 will be offered in the new MINI ... mainly because it would be a very expensive option ($3K?). They are likely to offer their normal (steptronic?) automatic transmission as an option.

Maybe the Cooper Garages or Alpina variants of the MINI Cooper S would offer SMG somewhere down the road.

I think that it will just have the "usual" steptronic option to be honest, but maybe later?

If after 4 or 5 years it may have a new engine, I see no reason why other things cant change dramatically too!
