Offline | Doc T, Newcomers to MINI2 usually get a welcome from the old stagers (some of them seem to live in here), but they seem not to have spotted you so welcome from me in any case. There are loads of threads in here debating the merits of various S options, which you can search for in the Cooper S forum. I see you've gone for the Chili pack, which is a good bargain at £1360 compared to £2020 for these items ordered individually. However, I decided against Chili for two reasons: i) reading a lot of info and viewpoints on MINI2 convinced me that the 16" wheels would be a better bet on poorly surfaced roads. The main attraction of 17" seems to be their undeniably stunning looks, but there's probably very little in it in terms of performance (if anything - some people even think the 16" are better). But there's precious little between the rim and the tarmac with 17s, so they could be so easily damaged on our potholed roads. ii) I love that sunroof, and am determined to make the most of what little sun there is in Scotland, whereas the need for A/C up here is questionable. A personal choice really, I've always preferrred fresh air in any case. Given these two preferences, it actaully wipes out the advantage of the Chili pack, even though I like all the other ingredients. Colour's obviously a personal choice too, but if you go for the sunroof, then why not have the whole roof black? Half- leather is a reasonable alternative to full leather if £££s are a consideration, but definitely not the silver cloth which would look awful after the first spillages. Only other comment, if you go for the black/blue seat colour combination you get a very blue rear seat. The other things that I procrastinated over were DSC and Xenon headlights. The overwhelming concensus seems to be that DSC can only be a good thing, the only dissenting voices coming from a minority within the racing fraternity, and most acknowledge that it can be turned off if necessary to avoid unsolicited back seat driving on the part of the computer under track conditions. And at just £210 it's got to be a bargain; it's not even an option for most cars in this class. (But now I've now gone and left it too late to order it - damn!) The MINI2 fraternity is quite divided over Xenon headlights, people like and dislike them for the same reason that they're really bright and you get to see very much better, but they can be dazzling for other motorists. If you get Chili you get them anyway. On the other hand, if you don't get them factory fitted you can't get them later. (You can get "Xenon" bulbs for ordinary lamps, but there not the same thing at all). I decided against them simply to keep overall costs down, I've always found ordinary halogens to be OK, and in any case it never gets dark here at this time of year. But I will get the headlamp washers which are available seperately, the foglamps and the heated mirrors/jets as a consolation prize for when the dreaded cold and dark return and may see me in your waiting room with a severe case of SAD. Anyway, that's quite enough of this, I'd better shape up, get out more and stop imagining that obsessively reading MINI2 is going to make my car appear any quicker. ![]() |

Offline | Thanks for the welcome, My current car has 18" wheels as standard (330 cab sport) and even with its 255/35 tyres, the ride is ok around here, so I suspect the 17" 45's will be ok for the S. On the subject of xenons, my car has them and I did pay £550 extra for them, money well spent in my opinion, they light the road spectacularly and as a bonus look fab in the twilight...eery blue glow. does anybody know if the mini ones are bi-xenons ie high and dipped beam or just plain dipped with halogen for high beam? nice meeting you all DocT DocT Cooper S DS/B (of course), Chilli, Auto Air, Full Leather, Roof, etc etc + Chrome-Design Pack / whelan shift machine / Origin B2 / TOYO NON-RUNFLATS :-))) Fastest Housecalls in the NHS! |

| Nice TTs......... | They aint bi-xenon.......dipped beam only.....I have a 323Ci, with 225/45/17, and my MINI on 15" without SS+ is a LOT harder than the BM........I think the comparison between the two cars mightnt be direct, so a test drive might clear up any doubts as to comfort..... ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |

Offline | DocT I think you've ordered a smashing looking car.. On changing the spec: I think you should be able to change the specification of the car at any time until you have had a test drive. In reality, I doubt this would be possible (for an early arriving car anyway) come June. May the force be with you... |

Offline | 1963_1071_COOPER_S my delivery date has come from being August to being the 2nd week in July. My dealer even recons it could come by the end of June. So there is a good bet that you car could come earlier. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |
