A Belated Happy Mother's Day!! (MINI version? No,-- long)

Today just for Mother's Day, I got to see 2 EB MINI Ss on the road!!

Talk about obsessive, I insisted my friend "follow that MINI!"
We pulled up right at the edge of his driveway while his teenage son and he parked in the garage, left the door open and came down to greet us. They were both smiling and very friendly. Gee, I hardly get embarrassed any more at such rude behavior on my part!

I was curious where he had gotten his S and how long he had it, etc. As it turns out, he had never been on a list, never given a deposit, no waiting-nothing! He needed a car right away. - Stopped in at the dealers and asked. They sold him the demo I had driven two or three weeks ago!
Sold it to him the very same day he stopped in to inquire!! @MSRP

He said they told him they were only allowed to keep two demos and a new one either was coming soon or was there.

Wouldn't it be nice if dealers would ask people on their long lists who had placed $1000. deposits and been waiting a very long time if THEY were interested in the demos? At least give them a shot at them.--quick phone call or brief email.
But then, their way they get one more sure sell.

At any rate, not this new owners fault. He was very nice and loves his MINI S.

(I would have loved it too!! )

The people who make up this board are the very best Mother's Day present!!!!

he he, thats nice Jos' Taa......

By the way, I agree with you. Current customers should have been given first refusal. THe pre-specced cars coming out to oz will be offered to present deposit paying customers BEFORE being sold off the lot. Much more professional approach. The demo's I guess will be sold about 3 or 4 months down the track.....not sure I would want one though.

Cheers

& Happy mothers day.........bit late, but anyway

I was offered every car, including dealer S's, so I would assume that's the norm. How do you know his dealership didn't ask everyone first? Or are you on their list..

Some dealers may have a good idea of what everyone wanted. I could have had my S a month ago, but my dealer knew I didn't want a loaded car, so never bothered to ask me (I still knew about it before it was sold of course). I just got the first stripped S to arrive.

I think that checking with customers on a waiting list in situations like this can be difficult, specially when the list gets close to a 1k like in some major metro areas in the US. Of course with the right software it can be done, but most dealers in the US seem to be operating out of folders

On the other hand if I'd been waiting for a year and a pre-specced car arrived that matched my order and it was sold to a walk in at MSRP, then I'd go nuts.

It sucks waiting, doesn't it.

No sig. for me.

Yes Fledge I am on their list.

You all make some good points.
The car was close to what I wanted and I would have liked to have been considered. Their list was not thousands but was less than a hundred. Do not know now.

You're right. Maybe I wouldn't have wanted it and it's just the waiting got to me It all seemed too easy compared to what we are going through.

Thanks for being there!!

Yes Jos', but your point was that it would have been nice to have been asked. And that is a good point still.
