Confirmation of deletion of sport package on my S

Hi Tom, thanks for writing in.

Unfortunately, our records indicate that your MINI Cooper S will not be built with the Sport Package or the Xenon Lights.

I'm sorry to have to give you a disappointing message. Please check with your MINI dealer to find out about your options. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,
Emily Hatley

This is soooooo F$@#ing aggravating

Anyone want a DS with White Top/Roof/wheels with premium and Cold package? June 21 Build

I am thinking about bailing on this whole fiasco.

Tom,
I'm very close to bailing also. I smell a cover-up. After seeing two conflicting "official" reasons for the delay on xenons, one can only wonder whether MINI USA even knows what the factory is doing. I honestly don't see a reason to wait a few weeks, only to be told then that the xenons won't be available until August...September...October...

Don't you think that Jen Schuelke, James Frost, and Emily Hatley of MINI USA should talk to each other about the reasons for the delays instead of giving two completely different reasons? Or does it just depend on what day of the week it is?

Memo to MINI USA:
Please get your act together. Notify the "powers that be" that the colonials are preparing for a revolution. Thank You.

I wonder if it is really the Xenon headlights that are causing all of this. They are not that important to me personally and I would think they would be easy to retrofit later. Why don't they just remove the Xenons from the Sport package and reprice it or build the cars and retro the headlights later. At the very least some candid discourse would be nice!

When they delete the sport package it would seem logical that they give you the choice of buy some or all of the other options a-la-cart. I suspect that many people might be willing to accept a car with the 17" wheels, fogs, and DSC but no xenons. I was offered a June delivery car without DSC and turned it down because I think its an option that really makes the mini stand out from other small cars. I hope they don't screw things up even further!

Call you dealer ... it's probably not too late to order the other options in the Sport Package ala cart.

I don't get it. They regret to inform you that your MINI will be nothing like what you ordered? Then, how does MINI define "order", and how do they figure a car without what you want is "yours"? I'm "ordering" a DS/black S, with Sport pack and black leather. If the car that is delivered isn't that, then it's not my car. Of course, with thousands of people waiting to buy MINIs, someone will undoubtedly want the car that I reject.

They're handling this about as poorly as one could...

I'd contact your dealer and do one of two things:

1. Order all the other Sports Package items ala carte.

or

2. Ask for a July Production date instead, when they'll be able to produce a car like you originally ordered.

At least they didn't delay your color 4 months (or maybe they did that too).

I am convinced that this is wishful thinking. I just got off the phone with Monica from MINIUSA and she said they they "HOPE" that Xenons would be available by "MAYBE" the "END OF SUMMER."

She said they didn't really know what the problem was at all and that MINIUSA is trying to get better info from MINI corporate.

I am VERY dissappointed. Maybe I should get the new VW GTI 337 instead! What a crappy way to do business. Pre-spec cars get loaded with Xenons and people who order them can't bloody get them!

I'm angry about MINI doing this without adequately communicating with their customers and then providing MINIUSA and the dealers with no information on this.

I think we need to start a petition or something to get BMW's attention!

This is a load of crap.

I don't get it.......
I've been reading all of this "no sports package/xenon light" but when I spoke to my dealer HE HAD NEVER HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. He had no idea what I was talking about. Is he lying or just out of the loop?

I have a June 21 build date.......should I be worried? When I log onto the owners lounge, the sports package is listed there. Wouldnt someone have to tell me if it would be taken off?

cause like some of you said.....if it doesn't have it..
**** OFF! I'm not buying a car with the wrong bits, after all the time I've waited.......

I am the same build date - 6/21. I am affected and you are affected. Everyone in JUNE is affected. Everyone in JULY is affected. Everyone in AUGUST is affected.

As it stands now, MINI would delete the WHOLE SPORTS PACKAGE when your car was produced - not just the Xenons from that package!

I just got off the phone with Karen at MINI Customer Relations, and she told me:

1) That no Cooper S's will be produced with Xenons or the Sport Package for at least until later this summer, probably July or August build. She couldn't pin down an exact date for the Xenons to be available.

2) That I could go ahead and change the order on my Cooper S to include all the Sport Package options except the Xenons, and that I could then still get my June 14th build car. That said, the other options in the Sports Package add up to $1240 (17" S-Lites are $600, fog lights are $140 and DSC is $500). What a deal !!! I can delete the Xenons and save a whopping $10. No way I'm doing that.

3) That I could delay my order indefinitely until the whole Sport Package was available. She had no timetable for this occuring, other to say that it will probably be late this summer.

One more thing...Karen told me that if I don't call my MINI dealer to change or delay my Cooper S order, the car will be built without any of the Sports Package options.

That is absolutely ridiculous, and I can't believe MINI thinks anyone will find it acceptable! In truth, I will probably order all of the Sport pack options separately, and just live without the xenons, but deleting all of the Sport equipment, and still expecting the buyer to take delivery? That's crazy. But, as I said before, there are plenty of people lined-up to by "my" MINI if I don't want it, so MINI has little incentive to fix this little problem. Essentially, every MINI is pre-spec, and the buyer can take it or leave it.

This is worldclass dis-heartening. Because I want bonnet stripes on my MINI, it will actually cost me $70 more than if I got the sport package I ordered.
It doesn't make sense, I loose Xenons and I pay an extra $70? Please, tell me that I did the math wrong.

Waiting, officially, since July 12, 2001.
C'mon July 2002!

Jason, I understand your frustration, but would you really want a GTI 337? No Xenon's and no sunroof on that car.

So when and how are they going to notify the rest of us. My car was originally scheduled for June 7 production. The next day it was changed to July 5. I called MINI USA and they said it had nothing to with Xenon headlights. I am not married to the Xenons, but would feel that some price adjustments should be made if one orders Sport Package options piece meal.

Maybe I'm just overreacting. I just find that the sum of all these delays as well as the total lack of clear communication from MINI on this is diheartening, frustrating and annoying. All I want is a MINI Cooper S to my specs.

Exactly. You save $10 from the sport package by purchasing all the available items separately. They out to have a sport package w/o Xenons priced a bit more fairly since it is MINI and not us who has chosen not to supply Xenons - thereby forcing us to by ala carte.

Definitive Answers Wanted. Apply Within.

I just sent another e-mail to the fine folks at MINI USA.

I simply asked for a DEFINITIVE ANSWER on when the xenons will be DEFINITELY available.

My dealer said that the xenons would be available in July but I will not delay this process any longer unless I get a DEFINITIVE answer from MINI!

Any bets on the answer from MINI?

I think that I already know...blah,blah,blah...

PS...dealer offers no discount on sport package minus xenons.
