England Steamy Windows

My 53 JCW Cooper S front windows have a steam problem. There is a distinctive line where half of the window from sill to roofline condensates obstructing my view of the wing mirrors, however the rest of the window is fine, does anyone else get this problem?

yeah, i have that too. not sure whether its actual condensation, as it only seems to appear after ive lowered the window and raised it again. it's almost like there's something rubbing against it when it it's down. Haven't really got to the bottom of it, depsite it being very annoying, especially when your car is lovely and clean, inside and out, and then you get this big streaky line, so can't really give you any tips or advice as to what it might it be, or how to get rid of it...

Hi guys,

This problem is most likely caused by dirty rubbers around your windows. I had a similar problem, and during one of my car washes last summer I decided to wash the rubbers with some rubbing alcohol. The problem went away after for the most part after that.

when you say washing the rubbers, is that just the bit you can see and get at, or did you have to dig deeper than that, so to speak?

this sounds like a repeat of an old problem. basically there's some pre-delivery residue on the weather strips inside the door panel which transfers onto the window. your dealer should know all about it & needs to strip off the weather seals & either clean them or refit new ones.

This only affects part of both front windows and there is a clear line which makes them look like there is a quarterlite window there like on the first of the line Mk2 Golfs, are we still talking about the same problem?

yep thats exactly how it looks. this has been a problem almost since the very first cars, i can't believe its still happening. besides the annoyance factor its dangerous not to be able to see your wing mirror because of this streaking

So basically I could ask BMW (Mini) to change the windows but chances are this is not gonna fix the problem, that is if they agree in the first place!!

Thanks all, at least I know I'm not the only one........if anyone else has a way of rectifying the problem I'm all ears

re streaky windows.

after moaning about it on a regular basis i got the seals replaced under warranty. no more lines on the window.

steamy windows, might be you air flow, are u running with the settings on do not replace air with external as this can cause a build up of heat. this happens quite often on my 53 CoopS, i just run the aircon for a while with the heat on and it usually resolves the issue as it works as a de-humidifier.

OK, so then this is something they will generally admit to and replace for you?

bit of a pain though, even if they will replace under warranty!
