Offline | Speed detector installation Hi, I was wondering if anyone has managed to install their Roadangel or similar GPS/speed detector without having wires trailing across the dashboard and footwells. Any tips or ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Steve |

| MINI2 lurker | There are many posts that you find useful in the past, some which detail the removal of the top dash, I myself have started a thread (long ago) about footwell neons, which I detail how to get a 12v to under the steering wheel, you then just need to combine it with taking the dash top off and you are done ! |

Offline | Hi Steve, I have a TomTom Go navigation system/speed detector in my MINI and the wires are hidden perfectly. I ran the wire from the cigerette lighter, then using electric tap I ran it along the roof of the footwell and then it tucked nicely away to run up the side of the door. I'm sure you will understand this more when you come to install it yourself but because of the great position of the cigerette lighter you can hide wires very well in this car ![]() |

Offline | Thanks for the replies, I had a feeling it would involve taping wires to the underside of the dash. Think I'll go with that rather than attempt to hardwire it through the dashboard. Thanks again, Steve |

Offline | I have also used this method of hiding wires for my roadangel, it really is easy to do as the footwell trim just unclips if there is a stubborn bit where the wire won't poke down. I was thinking about hardwiring the powerlead for the roadangel though as this would free up the cigerette lighter for other gadgets. ![]() |

Online | If you don't fancy cutting/splicing wires I have power take off kits. Basically a T piece harness that plugs into the radio, & ends in 1 or 2 cig lighter sockets which you can hide behind the drivers dash panel (or behind the dash end cap). Powers up your device when the key is switched on |

Offline | Road Angel 2 I have my road angel wired straight down to the ciggy lighter via the curly wirly cable. It sits right on top of the centre speedo pod or sat nav on the self adhesive mag mount. I did have it on the windscreen mount originally but it bounced around too much and the cable was streched which used to turn it around. Where it is now also means I can hear what it's warning better, as before it was difficult to hear over the stereo. Plus it means it can be unplugged everytime I park up and stops any scumbags eyeing it up. ![]() |

Offline | I got BMW to hardwire my Origin b2 into my MCS Works on the dash, just below the right pillar. The antenna and the Laser detector are in the middle of the dash imediately below the windscreen. It cost me a few quid but it's a very tidy install. What I don't understand is BMW's billing. When I had it installed in my previous car (2001 BMW M3 Convertible) they only charged me an hours labour but for the Mini it shot up to 2 hours.... I suspect it may because I got a free £800 service on my M3 when my hidden Trackm8 unit recorded a technician doing 122mph on an A road. But that's another story.... Offline | This is exactly where I put the road angel, not the best location for Laser detectors but it is the GPS I'm most concerned with. The install took about 5 mins and there are no visible wires, when I get a chance I'll take some pics and post them up. mikeythemini, where can I get one of those harnesses as that would finish off the install a treat. ![]() |
