United-States Must return to dealer?

I am seriously considering ordering a 2005 MCS. Although the nearest dealer is
quite a distance away. As a new owner, are you expected to return to the dealer for
oil changes, etc?? Can't you handle your own oil changes and if the car is good,
never return to the dealer again? Or does the car's computer force you to return
to the dealer to set it reset? I just don't like the idea of having to waste a vacation day
at work to get to a car dealer for an oil change or such. I keep hearing different stories
on this, so I'm not sure what is really factual.

Don't Have to Go to Dealer

You don't have to go to the dealer but they provide a lot of free stuff up to 3 years 36,000 miles.

There's no MINI dealer in Guatemala. I'm on my own though I understand that the BMW dealer will do work on it.

The computer that tells you need an oil change needs to be reset, but you can buy the tool that does it.

So, you can do it all yourself, but how far is your dealer! My is just 3,000 miles away, so I don't think I'll be taken it there for oil changes...though you never know!

You can do the oil yourself. The only added bonus of going for service is they inspect several other areas. That being said, I haven't been to the dealer in my first 15,000 miles and they are less then 10 miles away.

You don't need a tool, see reset procedure above.
