05 xenon lights advice needed

Hi everyone. I just took delivery of an 05 Cooper S (had an 03 cooper before) last Sunday. I noticed that my left headlight has a rather fuzzy light pattern with no sharp cutoff. The left light seems sharper. I drove a loaner '05 and the xenons seems to have a very sharp cutoff.

Are my lights defective? I would think that the projector xenons should have a sharper cutoff then my 03 reflector xenons but it is not.

I would say take it back and have their service people fix the headlight. My 05 Xenons both have a very sharp cutoffs. If not, they would be blinding the cars in front of you.

I don't think it is uncommon that the dealer prep and delivery folks miss a few things from time to time. When I picked up my car, the fan blower didn't work. I only discovered this after I drove away and it started raining. The service people were very good about fixing it so it shouldn't be a problem to have your headlights fixed.

Thanks. I called my client advisor and he arranged with service to have the lights looked at. I am thinking because of the light bulb position or orientation that is causing the focus of the cutoff to be off.

Do the lights self level when you switch them on ? ie move up and down when on and off . You can see this at a garage door or wall if you dont have a second person to look at them , they might not be set right or one is donald ducked

Just as a thought, check to see if the bulb is loose in its socket. Make sure the power is off before you do this as the voltage for Xenons is about 22,000 VDC and can ruin your day.

Yes I did check the bulb and it seems to be oriented in the right way. The only problem was putting everything back. Boy, it must have took me about 30min and a lot of pain in the neck and back. I almost removed the whole light assembly since I was so sore from bending.

Oh and the self leveling is functioning correctly. Thankfully. I remember my old 03 Cooper would not self level or point up too high sometimes and I had to restart the car to reset the lights.
