I just put down a deposit for a Cooper S and I was number 200 on the delaers' list. They estimated that it would take about 10 months to a year before the car is here. Does that sound right? should I look for other dealers and see what the wait is with them? Anyone else just put down a deposit? I'm located in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I would try another dealership. I order my S on Friday at the dealer and they placed my order with the factory yesterday.

Definitely call around.

With some significant effort I think you could locate an S to your specs by Christmas at the least. Be proactive.

I'm on Long Island, NY and put a deposit down on 4/11/02. My order just went in last Thursday for the July production.

Get this. I called the other 2 Mini dealers listed in the miniusa site for my Area, One is not going to start till December, the other one told me that no problem and I would get a car in July / August? if I put a deposit now. he told me they are the largest dealer in the State and get a larger allocation of cars? Sounds too optimistic but I guess I'm driving there tomorrow to put my deposit down. The one difference; however, was that they want $ 2,000.00 instead of the $ 500.00 that I gave the other dealer.

Dealers with short waiting lists are most likely charging over MSRP.
