Offline | Good job! Pretty funny because i had a run in with a Lotus a couple of weeks ago, it had a new exhaust on it, you could hear the thing for miles, and i thought that he would leave me no trouble, but to my surprise i stuck with him very easy, so much so that i wasn't sure if he was trying, but thinking about the noise that was coming from it, and the fact he kept looking in his review mirror to see if i was still right behind him, makes me think that he was, the only time he got away was when we hit a 30mph zone, and i slowed down to it, but he kept his foot to the floor, think he juist wanted to get away from me!! Damn did i have a big on my face! lol |

| The Power Cube | Lsd i'm quite annoyed at the fact i was not offered the LSD when i purchased my mini. i never knew about it. probably not a question you can answer as you haven;t driven a mini without a LSD, but can you notice any improvement on grip and control round bends etc. also - the fact one car beats another may have something to do with driving skill too. but from the way you explained it, perhaps not. :-) I also notice how people drive above the speed limit and take greater risks just to try and out run the MINI. for your info, I have (in a totally safe manner and within speed limits of 70mph) beaten a Carrera S 04 plate. And yes, he was driving to the limit. won him through a series of roundabout and 1/2 mile stretches. MINI - wolf in sheeps clothings, all of em !! Incidentally, i don't have the LSD. ![]() ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | I always try to keep it safe when I'm on the roads.. but I admit to a few little plays now and again It seems pretty much once corners are involved you're playing the trump card in a MINI.. whilst still being perfectly safe (within the limits of physics of course, but then the DSC would try to slap you before then)I know this from being left for dead when I had my last car ( chipped Mk4 Golf 1.8T) by a normal MINI Cooper, not an S!... I had absolutely no chance in any corner and once I got around each one, he was already miles away! When we 'parted company' I gave him a big thumbs up and he was grinning like an ape.. I bet he'd have been grinning even more if he'd known he'd utterly whalloped a 200hp chipped GTI! About a month later I visited the dealer and ordered my MCS. Nuff said, MINIs are brill and they advertise themselves perfectly Find it hillarious looking in the mirror whilst cornering at whats trying to keep up wobbling around the road behind me. .. and I'm just driving the car normally. MINI + LSD = enforced grin! 720 miles on the clock now. I can almost SMELL that >4500 rpm limit! |

Offline | Hmmm Having had 2 Elise's (still own the second) and driven both pre 05 and 05 S's (picking an 02 up next week) I honestly don't think it is anything to do with the car, and more the driver. An elise will go around corners far better then an S. Simple really - rear wheel drive and near perfect 50/50 weight balance v's front engine front wheel drive. S is more likely to understeer when pushed hard before the gizmo's cut in. Don't get me wrong, I like the S, hence buying one for the missus. But a properly drive elise will trounce an S on country roads. I accept that in-gear times for the S are faster, but that is not what the Elise is about. The elise is about balance, driver feel and involvement. There are no gizmo's, and unless you have driven one you cannot appreciate the difference between an S and and Elise. |

| MINI2 Master | I swapped my Series Two Elise (Sport 135 model) for a JCW Mini. Got to say that I agree with the above point to an extent. In the dry the Elise is exceptional around the bends. To get my Mini anywhere close, I’ve had to lower it, put a strut brace on and am now in the process of getting some Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres (the runflats ruin the car imho). My own personal opinion is that the Mini is more forgiving than the Elise is. Basically, if you over cook it in the Elise, the back end will swing out (not a great thing on the public roads), however the Mini will just bite in with its electronics. Therefore I feel I can be quite “hamfisted” with the Mini where I had to be more careful in the Elise (especially in the wet). Also, I had a friend of mine follow me down a county road where we “made progress” shall I say. He was in a Clio 172 Cup and I was in the Elise. After I changed over to the Mini, we attempted the same again and he said “I found it harder to keep in touch with the Mini than the Elise”. Why is this? Well I think it comes down to the fact that you can be more aggressive with the Mini compared to the Lotus. I mean going down a bumpy, uneven country lane in the Elise does shake you up a bit, so you generally hold off, whereas in the Mini you can keep on going! Around a track though I reckon the Elise would eat the Mini alive (the JCW included!) Lotus Elise SC - Collecting 1st April |

Offline | Yea, I think it was more to do with driver skill. The MINI has the torque to pull hard but the Elise needs to be driven way up in the revband to get it's power. You really need to to know how to drive to drive an Elise right. The Elise, being mid engine and rwd, has the advantage over the MINI in corners (especially the long, fast one's). I'd drive either ![]() |

Offline | Try it against an exige and they'll leave you for dead..... and as for a Carrera S.... well I've been beaten up by one of those as well A well driven Carrera S will kick your ass in the corners and leave you long gone by the time you get to the straights ![]() | MINIaddiction | | For MIDLANDS Folk in their MINI's | |

| 05 MCS BEP | I would love to drive a Ferrari or a Lambo or something exotic. They would look great parked in my driveway. But I would be so paranoid that something would happen to them. I had always wanted to own a Lotus too. But the MINI gets me 90%+ there without the issues. But if somebody should happen to GIVE me an exotic car, I would not hesitate to keep it ![]() |
