Wink So here goes ?

Test drive booked for Saturday AM. Cooper S.

Already have and am very pleased with standard cooper.

I don't NEED an S but listening to you guys they are *THE* MINI to own and drive, right?

I am actually hoping I don't like it that much as I already love driving our standard cooper!

It will have to impress the pants off me for me to trade up but because of all the hype, I feel I have to test drive an S.

so if you have test driven an S what should I look out for in terms of subtle differences to the cooper? will the gear box be as sweet or more business like?

was there anything you wanted to do on your test drive but never got the chance?

If I didn't have a MINI I would plump for the S. Do you think I will be persuaded to trade up?

What are the odds guys? (just for fun).

Oh Roblad, you're about to make yourself crazy.

Subtle differences, hmmmm. Don't cheat now, no fair looking at the instruments. From driving your Cooper, you have a good idea how far into/how long on the throttle will get you to a given speed. Find a nice high-speed road, get rolling, get shifting, do your Cooper thing and when you judge you should be at about 70 MPH, look at the speedometer and discover you're going....WHOA!!!HOWDIDOTHAT??? And the agony begins......

Oops Roblad, just saw Yorkshire, you may not have any more idea of 70 mph than I would of 110 km/h

Oh Robin!

Robin,

Once you sit in those fantastic leather seats, something will happen...

Half an hour later, you would have ordered yours. I thought, it can't be that much better than the Cooper. Everything in the S is just stronger and harder, the clutch is so much heaver and that gearbox is lovely!

Mine is ordered and I can't wait!

Alex.

Black and White Cooper here, soon to be an Electric Blue & White S, with the WORKS!!

Aint no Subtle differences...they are glaringly obvious.

Try finding a quiet roundabout on your way to the test drive and doing a lap or two in the cooper, then try it in the S.....You will know why we enthuse so much!

oh, and listen to the glorious soundtrack that accompanies you...no not the boost cd system...the supercharger !!

Enjoy, I had such fun on my drive that I had to go for another and am now planning another!

Wink To All

Thanks for all your comments and sugestions, its Friday PM an I will post back tommorrow after the test drive.

Here's how I envisage the day

Warm car up and listen for the burble of the exhaust as I pull out of the dealership,
Make salesman feel comfy and secure!

wait for the twisty bits and red line in each gear, left foot braking round all the corners and maxing it on the straights, only to stamp on the brakes repeatidly causing disc glow and much smoke. Sideways round the roundabouts 3 wheeling as I go!
Then casually slowing down and cruising back to the dealership

If jonathan (salesman) is reading this Ime only joking!!

Will post back tommorrow.

First post but long time reader, treat me gently

Drove the S today finally after having a deposit down since last November, well worth the wait

Confirmed the spec, coughed up more deposit and signed on the dotted line for an August build date.

Dark silver/black roof and bonnet stripes, gravity/lapisblue leather, CHILI, TLC, DSC, MFSW, climate control, sunroof, radio boost, CD changer and a few other bits and bobs.

Roll on August!!!

Mike.

3 wheeling round the corner? Shurely shome mishtake Mishter Bond!

It's an S and has sport+ suspension...when I tried it it wouldn't lift its leg at all, I think you need a ramp like Russ Swift

ps hello habu, you're very welcome

Talking enlightenment !

Hope I've spelt that correctly

Well what can I say?

I took my dealers very high spec S out this morning, over 20 Grands worth of motor with just a little over 400 miles on the clock.

Sublime driving experience to be sure!, the gearbox was absolutely spot on, crisp, precise changes that made me feel like Marcus Gronholme!!

mid range power and torque simply effortless and the sweet sweet sound emanating from both the supercharger and exhaust. Gorgeous.

This is surely a car for the enthusiast, the cooper is excellent but the S is near to perfection IMHO.

So now I have to decide whether or not to trade up which will be difficult as the drive home in the standard cooper was still very sweet and my wife and I are quite attatched to our cooper. (However sacrifices may have to be made).

I have persuaded my wife that if we (Hyperthetically of course )changed to the S she would be happy.

I have been quoted October delivery.

So I am going to sleep on it and dream of the S!!!

And you will continue doing that until the moment comes you have your very own S

Congrats robinboyes, I believe I recognise the symptoms, my diognosis is that you have been infected with the S-virus First the bad news: there is no cure The good news however is that there is a method to kill the pain: Get your self an S!!!

You came at the point of no return mate and you know no one can stop you....

Sweet dreams

I also caught the S-Virus after only 5 minutes in the car, The major symptoms that I experienced were...

1) a heavy right foot &

2) tightening of facial muscles into what can only be described as a cheshire cats grin (and a grimace from the dealer)

Dealer said he had been naughty, not running the car in and taking upto 5K and Over....WHOOOOOAAA Nelly, he saw the far side of 6.5 when I was in command!

Indeed there is only one cure. I prescribe a MCS to be taken as often as required.
You know you want one.

Would anyone ever (even remotely) consider buying an ex-demo dealer car?

Robinboyes

TOLD YA, TOLD YA!!!

Great as the cooper is, its crying out for more power and torque...This of course really shows how good the chassis/suspension engineering is!

THERE IS NO GOING BACK NOW

The Doctor reccommends a daily dose of 'S' as the secret to happiness and fulfilment

Wink It's Happening

My wife and I have been trawling through all the threads discussing Colour

Dark Silver? I Like - She says too Dark!

Electric Blue with white roof and bonnet stripes ? She likes but too girly??

But we have not decided whether to part ex yet!

It looks like we have subconciously resigned ourselves to the gravitational pull of the Mighty S !!!

We will keep U Posted
