Laptop Software Needed to Perform Feature Setting

I currently have in my possession a VAG-COM connector (you VW guys will know what this is) that connects the car's ECU into the serial port of my laptop. With this tool and software from someone like VAG-COM VW/Audi Diagnostics you're able to set features (i.e, auto locking) and also clear check engine codes (highly useful if you have a modified VW 1.8t or Audi 2.7t ECU).

Does anyone know how we could utilize this type of connector with BMW or MINI software set our own features?

Cheers!

Kurt

Look under your dash and around the interior for the OBDII connector, I doubt its the same plug. You could use a generic scan tool on this port but it wouldnt let you set any special features until someone writes the software. We've been discussing this on a thread called "digital readout" or something in the faults and fixes section.

I tried it already.. it fits..the OBDII connectors are standard for all cars from 1995 on.

Just wanted to re-start this thread.
Anyone hookup the VAG-COM connector to their MINIs yet?
What can you see?

VAG-COM will not show you anything when you hook it up to your MINI. VAG-COM is built to use VW's proprietary protocols, not the standard OBD-II protocols.

The company that makes VAG-COM is working on a BMW/MINI version but they have just started and as yet do not have a timetable as to when it will be ready.

Uwe's starting on it huh? cool!

I got Cartune software.. it sees the ECU (Siemens) with my VAG-COM connector but it's scary as stepping in dog crap trying to get it to work with the english/german menus. I didn't even bother trying to get it to work. Too risky. I'll wait for UWE to come out with his stuff.
