New Mini! New Problems!

Hi,

I recently collected my 2003 MCS from a dealer (non Mini) and have a catologue of issues, what would you do get it all fixed or demand your money back?

Problems:
Windscreen Cracked - To be replaced FOC
Bonnet stone chipped- To be resprayed at a discounted cost to me
Door strap rusty- To be replaced by BMW under warranty
2 Alloys with lacquer peel- Awaiting response from BMW if a warranty replacement.
Supercharger makes the humming noise off throttle- offending hose to be replaced by BMW under warranty

This morning when I pulled out of my drive the steering was 'groaning' it disappeared and didn't hear it again. Yesterday in a traffic jam I had a tick about every 3 seconds which disappeared.

The car has covered 24,000 Miles.

Have I bought a lemon?

Um No.
Most of what you have described is totally cosmetic my bonnet has stone chips that doesn't make mine a lemon. every car depending on age- way driven requires repairs time to time. The groan is most probably the power steering. I love it makes it sound more like remote controlled car

Sounds like you bought it used as it's a 2003.
Did all of these items exist when you bought the car? If so, would have thought you'd factor them into the price you paid.

The PCV hose is a common issue ('supercharger humming')
The steering is electric - will make noise any time you're turning it, and is normal. Easier to hear in a garage or near a wall that reflects the sound.
Not sure about the 'tick'.
Best of luck getting all resolved!

The tick.. not meaning to sound like an idiot here btw!

It wasn't raining was it? Rear wiper relay makes a right loud click whenever it wipes. I'm only saying this as I was hearing this noise.. didn't twig what it was for a while! Took a few miles to realise what the annoying click was, caught me out!

Power Steering Noise

Barney,
Although the power steering does make quite aloud whining noise, some of the 2003 MCS's did have steering rack problems, including mine. The main thing to keep an eye on is the fluid level, which is the black plastic reservoir at the back centre of the bonnet just under the windscreen. You should be able to clearly see the fluid.

On mine it had lost most of it's fluid and was getting increasingly more noisy as time went by. In the end they replaced the whole rack and (touch wood) it hasn't been a problem since.

Hopefully it's just you not being used to the noise it makes, so I'm not trying to worry you, just making you aware of an old problem.
