JCW Exhaust Question

Hello

I recently purchased a 2 week old JCW exhaust for my MCS from eBay. I got it for a very reasonable price and have fitted it to my car, but I am having problems with it not sealing correctly.

I purchased a new exhaust gasket before fitting the exhaust, but it is still letting gas escape.

Is there a special gasket for the JCW exhaust or does it just use the standard gasket?

maybe the leak is the reason it was on ebay?

there are users on here that have the JCW exhaust on a non-JCW MINI, sure they will let you know how they got on with fitting

I put that system on about a month ago.It went on perfect.I used the gasket listed for that system and no leaks.Get the gasket from MINI,and lay a staight edge across the flange.

maybe its the bolts loosening?

as with heat they expand and loosen, if the incorrect bolt is not used? Try checking those, and maybe a bit of thread lock will help to keep them tight and sealed

There doesnt appear to be any defects in the actual exhaust. It just appears that the flange from the exhaust is not sealing correctly with the flange from the Catalytic convertor.

The reason I got the exhaust off ebay was that the owner had purchased a quad output unit for their Cooper S Works, and had left it in their mother and fathers garage!! Hence they sold it on ebay for the modest sum of £150

The bolts are not loose hence my question if the gasket used for the Works exhaust is different from the standard part. There was a copy of the JCW Conversion manual kicking around the internet some time ago, but I am unable to find it at the moment. If anyone has access to this manual or indeed knows if I need a different part I would appreciate the help.

Cheers

The manual is on Mini2: http://www.mini2.com/guides/pdf/JCW_MCS_install.pdf
The exhaust description is little more than a half page, and the instructions don't say much more than "Remove the old unit. Attach the new unit" and point to where the clamps are.

Whip it off and slap a bit of instant gasket round it.

It'll sort it no probs, then stop worrying.
