Offline | Revving High Whilst on another 'adventure' today, i wondered how many other cars on the road in the same class as the MINI performs as well. I mean, red lining in 3rd gear doing 90mph (apparently) - not many cars in the same price bracket as the MINI can do this - right? The first one that springs to mind is the Honda Civic Type R?? Offline | My Mk4 Golf 1.8T could do (an indicated) 72mph in 2nd gear at the limiter That was a 5speed one, the later ones had a 6 speed box, including the R32s and the ratios are a lot shorter... too short infact!!For a 6 speed box, the MCS has quite decent length gears I reacon (not too short, not too long), much better than VW's 6speed box. There's a fair few cars out there that are quicker for the price, but I've not driven anything that puts the power down anywhere near as sweetly as a CooperS, or drives as confidently.. especially with the traction control off! Plus, unlike MINI, a lot of other quick cars sacrifice refinement, style and build quality and lack the ability to have a smooth relaxing drive when you want it. I want my cake and I want to eat it! The only other car I was prepared to consider when buying my MCS was the new Golf GTI. Everything else was either too expensive, too tacky, too tinny or too ugly. MCS isn't the quickest, but its still bloody quick and for the price, probably one of the best driving cars you can possibly get! Unless you want a Clio 182 thingy.. but that'll fall appart! |
