Is there a break in period for the 05 S's?

My 05 S is on the way; I remember having a break in period where I didn't go over 4500 RPM in my 02 cooper; Is there still a break in period for the newer S's?

Thanks for your help!!

And when you've went from a Cooper to an S (like I did), it's very very hard to stick to 4500rpm...

thanks for the help!

It will be difficult to keep it under 4500 for first 500 miles!! I did it with my cooper, and I will try to do it with my S;

United-States Break in

I've had my 2005 S Convertible for a couple weeks now. My dealer said 1200 miles before I should go over 4500 RPM or 95 MPH, recommended I not use the cruise control, and recommended I not engage the turbo charger either.

Lucky for me, I drive a lot so I hit the 1200 mile number this weekend!

It's just not right to have to wait this long!

It's a supercharger, and, in short, as long as the engine is in motion, so is the charger.

The procedure is in the manual for anyone who wants to the know the "official line".

yes, for god sakes... what ever you do, do not engage the turbo charger!!!!! the space time continium is at stake. at least until 2007 (or twin/helix time).

It still really shifts while running in.

My last car only had 115hp and this brings a smile to my face everytime I drive now. Just wait til it`s run in a Chesire cat or the Joker[from Batman] will have nothing on ME

It is also a good idea to not sit at the same speed for a long amount of time (ie motor/freeway) when running the engine in.

Have you noticed a difference in your MCS as it passed break in? I hit 1000 today.

In my Cooper at about 2500 miles or so gear changes, clutching, etc. started feeling much smoother and more "liquid"

Should engine speed be varied, or is it just car speed?

Just got an S, and can't wait till break in is done. Oh, and can't wait till I stop stalling from uphill dead starts

Yeah you don't want to just sit and 70 in the same gear for to long.

Were running in for 1200 miles as it says in the book. We have been going up to 4000 rpm threw box. But not pushing it. Still shifts as you should now. Plus 4000rpm in 6th =96 mph on mtotrway so not much to worry about . It still goes while running in
