Offline | Getting 27.6 mpg. What about you? I thought I'd get at least 30 mpg but I'm not. My other car, which has more hp and is a little heavier gets 26. I also drive that one harder. What can I do to increase my MINI's fuel efficiency? The car has 7500 miles, has had an oil change already and the tires are inflated properly. Should I be happy with my mpg? Am I asking too much? Please advise. By the way, I'm very happy with the car in spite of the gas. |

Offline | He is in the USA and over here in north america we don't get a "one" My Cooper is averging 32mpg (US gallons), I do drive it had, but with the traffic around here its hard to floor it very often. What kind of driving are you doing? Do you have a manual transmission? I suggest you check the tire pressure, car alignment, and perhaps oilchange, ECU reset, new sparkplug... it really depends on your car's mileage and the type of driving you do. |

Offline | Oops, I meant 1.6 liter. Shows you how much I know about my car. Anyway, the tires are 34 psi run-flats. It's a five speed and I drive 40 miles round-trip to work, mainly freeway. I never shift below 4000 rpm. The car has just 7500 miles and I've changed the oil with Mobil 1 and OEM filter, not wanting to wait for the free oil change from the dealership. What else can I tell you about my car other than it's one of the best car purchases I've made. I got it a great price with only 7000 miles. It's a 2005 and I am the second owner. It's never been in an accident and still smells brand new. The previous owner also has a 2002 Miata MX5 that's paid off so she sold the car that has a note. |

Offline | All things being equal... it's likely the fact you never shift below 4000rpm's. I typically, when just tooling around, shift at near or less than 3000rpm's. The higher rpm's you shift(to a point) the more fuel is consumed. It may be more fun to shift at higher rpm's, but fuel efficient it is not. , B.T.W. I always get low to mid 30's for mileage and yes I do run the rpm's at 4000rpm's and beyond on occassion. Just not on a regular basis. ![]() |

Offline | Driving style is the determining factor in fuel consumption, a few tips: Leave it in lower gear and above 4000rpm when you know there is a chance you need to accelerate quickly in the next 5 seconds. If there are no gaps or need to accelerate quickly in the next 5 seconds, leave it in the highest gear you can without dropping below 1500rpm. Pace yourself so you use brakes as little as possible. Thats the way I drive, I have tons of fun overtaking people and zipping around traffic, but I still get 32mpg, all city driving. |

Offline | Not worked it out - but the MINI's got the most variable fuel consumption I've ever seen. - It's very economical if you drive it sensibly, and horrendous if you rev it. Mind you - if i want economy I take the wife's Audi A4 CVT Auto Diesel. Minimum 50MPG however you drive it - and its quite a bit quicker than the Cooper. ![]() |

Offline | If im doing a lot of journeys and also really flooring it I get 33-34 mpg, roughly. But the past week or so I've done more longer journeys 60-75mph mostly, and the whole tank average was 39mpg, which i was very pleased with |

| Proper mugs | My calculations show I've been getting the following (per tank). 34.91 32.26 34.17 36.23 33.17 34.02 36.55 36.05 34.80 33.84 36.66 38.91 37.92 38.85 39.02 38.99 37.40 This is based on miles covered / amount of fuel to fill the tank to full. On average this works out about 2mpg less than that shown by the OBC ![]() |

Offline | I got 400 miles out of my last tank of fuel. I can usually squeeze in around 45 litres of fuel in at the petrol station, which works out at roughly 40mpg (UK). |
