Offline | 2005 Cooper - trying to get updated clutch. HI all, I've posted over in faults & fixes in regards to the 2005 Cooper clutch and my attempts thus far in trying to get the revised unit fitted under warranty. http://www.mini2.com/forum/faults-fixes/105793-2005-cooper-bmw-attitude-towards-clutch.html If any of you fellow 2005 owners can offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Geoff. Last edited by BRG/Blk Cooper S : Dec 15th, 2005 at 05:08 PM. |

Offline | Hi Geoff, my understanding is that the updated clutch came out around the end of 04. My Cooper a Sep 04 didn't have it from the factory, and I think I had it fitted at the begining of 05. It almost completely fixed a bad rattling at around 2000 rpm but only improved slightly the clunkiness at low speeds. As far as I know that's the only modified part for a Cooper. Where have you read that there is a new flywheel, I've never heard of this? Are you thinking of the Cooper S, these have problems with flywheels? If you're car was built in 05 I believe you will already have the modified part. I drove an almost new Cooper the other day 1500 miles I think, and it was clunky to. hope this is of some help |

Offline | HI, I had a chat with the technician who had worked on my Cooper yesterday and we discussed and both agreed on the clutch/gearbox noise issue. It's not a huge deal for me, just a minor annoyance really. Anyway, he advised that the service department are on the case with hassling BMW to sort this out and provide a warranty fix. I guess we wait and enjoy in the meantime.. ![]() Cheers, Geoff. |

Offline | Hi, I'm also having a clutch/flywheel issue with my new cooper s when the engine is cold. They said they need to replace the flywheel for one which will lower performance and economy or I live with it! Not the answer I was looking for. I'm only seeing the idle issue your seeing and I have been told the same from my dealer (Stevenage) about the PUMA statement (whats a PUMA statement?). I was told my a mechanic friend that the issue may resolve itself as the clutch wears in. Sorry no advice on what to do as I'm in the same boat as you. I think it's wait and enjoy until they get a fix for it. |
