South Africa Mini Drivers

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say that no other car is quite like the Mini. I fell in love when I first heard the rumours of a new Mini being produced. Almost four years later I have my very own. I live in Cape Town South Africa, a very young trendy part of the world, and the Mini has opened my eyes to a whole new part of cape Town I didn't know existed.

Mini Drivers: Everywhere I go, when I see another Mini, I always smile knowingly that they are smiling too, and everyone waves and flashes their headlights even hoots to say "Hi"

Does this happen everywhere around the world? If it doesn't perhaps we could all smile and wave to mini drivers everywhere?

This must be the best car in the world.

My next car - another Mini

South Africe isn't the right place for expensive cars (or even cars you cherish), is it? Doesn't SA have the highest rate of car jacking in the world?

South Africa

There are incidencesof carjackings, but mainly in Johannesburg. You're wrong in saying that this is no place to have luxury cars though. Cape Town is so beautiful that many rich people move to CT to retire and spend their final 40 years or so in Luxury. There are plenty of BMW 3-6 series cars, Bentleys, More than one porshe dealership, a Ferrari's and quite a big Lamborghini club!

This is a City of big toys. It's also a young trendy place to be so like me, many people drive Mini's, Golf V's, Beemer 1's.

There is crime anywhere in the world you go, so you can either let it beat you, or you can get on with having the time of your life! Come to Cape Town and see why the biggest industry (40%) of local income is tourism!!!

PS. Paul, I hope you had an exellent stay in my back yard!

The only attempt at car-jacking we experienced was by a baboon who was seriously considering jumping out in front of the S, but we obviously scared him enough so he just ran off (looking very confused) in the other direction!

My real question here was, do all other mini drivers around the world greet each other on the road?

We certainly do

It is starting to happen a lot less in the UK as there are so many MINI's and people just don't seem to understand the culture of owning one

Nice MINI you have, same colour scheme as mine

I think that the best thing we could do is say Hi!

Recently a friend of mine returned from the UK with a stash of money and lined up to buy a 1 series beemer. She needed a car in a hurry and the waiting list was too long.

My wife drove her around in the Mini and she placed her order for one the next day! They had one left in Chili Red and it made its way to her the following week. We made sure to tell her about the road etiquette, and she's so amused at all the Mini drivers here in Cape Town.

It always makes me smile - Sometimes when we're driving our other car - Vw Polo - I wave at the Mini drivers, but no repsponse ....must be a mini thing!
