United-Kingdom Right-hand to left-hand drive conversion

Not posted on here for quite some considerable time but don't worry Nikki (BananaSplit) and I still have our Coopers and love 'em to bits but I've got a question - done a search but it didn't throw up any helpful results.

The whys and the wherefores are not important at but does anyone know if it is possible to convert a MINI Cooper from right-hand to left-hand drive?

If so is there anywhere in the UK or EUROPE that does it and ideas of costs involved?

I'm not looking for replys like - "What's the point? Why not buy a left-hand drive version in the first place?" - I want to keep my current MINI.

Thanks

As requested, no questions and no comments about the sanity of your question.

Converting your car is going to cost you somewhere in the region of £5-£6,000!

Most European countries will try to make it very difficult for you, as they would prefer you help their economy out by buying one of their cars, so you will find it much easier to get it done here.

No reason why not. Just have to swap all the relavent parts over. Never heard of anyone doing it though and i suspect will be ££££'s. Typically only done on cars that only come in left hand drive. For example Lancia Delta Integrale or Golf Rallye.

You've then also got registration issues too as you'd have to declare it a left hooker after the conversion.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Of course it's entirely possible if you have the ££££ to fund it.

The only thing that would concern me is the vast number of parts that need removing and re-fitting. Things are never quite the same once they have been taken apart, rattles and sqeaks etc!

We could and would do a left to right conversion or vice versa, but the costs could only be kept reasonable with a write off donor car as a source of parts otherwise it would rise to the £1000,s looms, steering, pedals, brakes, dash, instruments ,a LOT of work!

Thanks for the reply.

Would that mean me having to source a donor car myself then? Just as a rough estiimate, if I were to find a donor car how much would it cost for you to do the conversion?
