On a full tank I get anything between 26MPG and 50MPG, that's roughly 220 to 500 miles per tank. Purely depends how you're driving, the speed and the conditions (stuck in traffic, etc). Oh that's running on Optimax (now V-Power 99RON), my car is a 2003 Cooper with remap, Viper Induction and a cat-back PlayMINI exhaust.

the petrol light come on @ 260 miles, filled up @ 270 miles. which tbh is okay as i was 'playing' alot when i got the car.

filled it up again at sainsbury n was only £31 for full tank as a oposed to £34 @ BP for 3/4 - will see how this lasts, will TRY drive it normal for a week haha, like that would happen

Glad this topic has been brought up, been meaning to do it myself!

I have an 02 Cooper. I drive 600 miles per week of which 95% is motorway driving. On my way to work I do constant 70 (manual though. no cruise control!). On the way back i will drive a little faster as I want to get home

I am getting at the most, 320 miles per tank (when i say per tank, im talking from completely full to the brim, to when the red light comes on. I never run it down past the red light). Is this about right then?

I dont have the OBC so not sure what my UK mpg is. And i cant work it out as I am unsure on the exact size of the petrol tank. Is it 50L main tank + 8L reserve? Or is it 50L including the 8L reserve tank?

Any chance somebody could work it out for me?

Hi burns,

Just checked out the cooper tech specs sticky in this forum and it says the tank is 50l. So I expect that the 8l is included in that, or the tank capacity would read 58l. 8l is a almost a fifth of 42, so if you work out a fifth of 320 litres I think that's another 60 miles. So you could theoretically do 380miles to a tank of 50 litres if you ran it completely empty. I THINK

I was thinking that but i have run t low once and it went down really quick soon as the red light was on. dont think i could get 60 out of it If the full tank capacity is 50L then I have worked out if i get 350 miles out of a full tank then i am only getting 31.8mpg And thats 95% motorway driving. However I use standard unleaded 95. I havent yet ever forked out for the super unleaded. Would the extra cost of it be likely to be worth paying for the fuel saving i might get? or is it likely to be only a very small reduction in petrol consumption by using it?

Hi Burns,

The best way to do it is to note how much fuel goes in when you fill-up, as this is the only way to get an accurate answer. Dividing the litres used by 4.55 gives you the number of (UK) gallons you have used. Then simply divide your mileage by this number.

Indeed you don't need to know the size of the tank. On a standard Cooper using better petrol isn't really going to provide better performance (well I don't feel the extra 0.3bhp) but the engine runs more smoothly, and I feel that fuel consumption is slightly better but this saving is offset by the extra cost.

only get about 32 mpg out of my one. but it doesnt go far to be honest . my wife drives it daily but she has had an op and now cant drive for 6 weeks! i havent touched it this week..i can see it getting a rest for a bit as its easier for her to get in and out of my other car. my old car was a 3.2 v6 vauxhall and that did 25 mpg on short journeys and around town, but it got well into the 30's on a run. the mini isnt that good on fuel to be honest , my mate has a new 1.6 focus and that is brill on fuel (but the focus is very boring compared to a mini)

Was your vauxhall a signum by any chance? or was it the vectra (not sure if they did a 3.2L vectra or just 3L). I work at vauxhall in Ellesmere Port you see. We make the 5 door astra and the astra van

Yea the focus is definitly better on fuel. But like you say it is no where near the same class as the MINI. Not as fun, very boring, and it doesnt go around corners as fast

cooper 2005
I get 26.4 mpg in the winter and it drops down to 24.9 in the summer with the air con on all day,
the car is being driven in urban areas all day, not very good from a small car,

I hope the mpg will be better on my R56 cooper s when i get it in march 07.

it was a signum elite..very nice car actually!! the vectra did do a 3.2 as i looked at those at the time (particularly the gsi) but the signum had a higher spec!

my mates focus is one that ford specced up for the showrooms , nice alloys, body kit ,phone kit , uprated stereo and xenons. it was a show model and not for sale when the new focus first came out...but when they finally decided to sell it he got in there first....still not as nice as a mini though
