| Back To My Old Self | Blufin on a ONE is certainly the way to go, but on a Cooper I'm not so sure. My reasons being. - When anyone starts a thread about chipping a Cooper and Blufin is mentioned there a loads of responses from those with Blufinned ONE's, but Cooper drivers seem far more scarce. - Not sure how much you realistically gain, the 130 bhp figure is misleading. The ONE gets a big kick in the pants from the Blufin, but look at the power curves for the Cooper and it appears that Blufin only added 8bhp to the Superchips car, (it was originally 123bhp, and rose to 131). Is that 8 bhp really noticable? I don't mean this to be a negative post, more of playing devils advocate, and trying to tempt all those people driving Blufinned Coopers out into the open. As for Pro's and cons I would say the following. Pro's more power obviously (8 bhp), removable, Good reputation and backed by Superchips warranty (but only if you have no other mods!). The cons might be more engine wear I guess. There is also the question of clutch and how the old Midland box in your car will cope with the extra power, and the way your driving will change once you have the extra go. There are many many members driving MINI's with Blufin without any problems, and should I choose to go the chip route it is probably the product I would choose. You may also want to look at the MTH, and AMD options. Good luck with whichever modding route you take Steve. ![]() Last edited by humph : Jun 19th, 2007 at 08:11 AM. |

| Back To My Old Self | I know the feeling Steve, but running an S for 30K miles a year isn't practical for me ![]() Sorry if my post above seems negative, was hoping we'd get an irate crowd of chipped Cooper owners fighting their corner, but alas not. ![]() I know minicabrio runs the AMD chip, but don't know of anyone running anything else on their Coopers. Some time ago when I was looking to chip my old 03 Cooper I came across the power/torque curves attached in a thread on M2. Mostly MTH chips in the cars tested but may be of some use. NOW WHERE ARE ALL THOSE CHIPPED COOPER DRIVERS? ![]() Last edited by humph : Jun 19th, 2007 at 12:38 PM. |

Offline | I probably have one of the few Bluefinned Coopers in the USA. It seems to have given me about 10 hp near the top of the rev range and a little crisper throttle response. Here's an old thread about it. My results on post#45. http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-coop...ml#post2339319 |

| The Roaming Gnome | Instead of going for a chip, have you thought about weight savings, and/or suspension modifications. For the "performance" price/value, a chip on a Cooper isn't going to get you much. By removing excess weight via lighter wheels, and brake/suspension components, you'll gain a performance advantage while potentially decreasing wear on the vehicle. My $0.02. Offline | Not worth trying, even for 4.99. Here are some previous threads from here on the subject. http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...o-upgrade.html http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...ck-device.html http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...-trickery.html |

Offline | It's going to mess with your fueling by fooling the ECU into injecting more fuel into the engine, basically the same way your engine does during the warm-up choke phase. You may have slightly more power initially, but your emissions will go to hell and it will probably harm your engine by running too rich all the time. Nobody be a muppet please. Full marks to the guy for typing loads on the ebay page though, he put some effort in. What new bits? I didn't buy any new bits... |
