Offline | Big dreams, little money! I have an 04 Mini Cooper Non-S, and uh...proud? I currently have exhaust and Im looking for other performance parts. I do plan on turbocharging it. YES, I know this is alot of time and money but I want a Turbo Non-S not something you do not have to work at. A Turbo Non-S just seems cooler. ![]() I plan on getting a TSW Damper and a Pilo Racing Igintion Upgrade really soon. So are these mods a go or will I just be wasting my money? And what else can I get for relatively inexpensive? BTW Im Sixteen ![]() |

Offline | Get a good intake that sucks in cold air (Pipercross Viper, BMC CDA, ...). Also get a software upgrade if you can. Those are the least expensive modifications for not a lot of money. With software, intake, air diverter plate and an exhaust (headers and cat. not included) you can see +10 hp and +10Nm. After that, getting more power starts getting expensive. Headers, cat., cams, polished cilinder heads, ... are other options but will cost you some money, not the same as a turbo kit though. |

Offline | An entertaining idea, but this is going to be a major undertaking to: a) Fit such an installation under the already low Cooper bonnet. Especially if you plan on cooling the compressed inlet charge (essential). and... b) Even if it can be made to work, the major engine internals are not designed to take turbocharging; the engine internals and compression ratio on the S are quite different. If you really want to do it, it could be done. But, to do it properly will be a great deal more expensive (this will never be "relatively inexpensive") than simply trading it for an S. In addition, you will wind up with a car that will be virtually impossible to sell afterwards. Don't do it! ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |

Offline | And another thing, if your '04 MINI was built before July '04 it will have the Midland Gears' gearbox. Even if you manage to turbocharge the Cooper successfully (and the engine doesn't disintegrate as a direct result) then the gearbox will. This gearbox is running pretty close to its design limitation with "only" 115 bhp. Tigger. PS: What's wrong with 115 bhp? I didn't get to drive a car with that output until I was 22! There, I've said it now, so I'm officially a boring old fa*t!! ![]() ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |
