whats the best price youv'e had for recon gearbox ?

we all know that bmw has made an arse of this wee car and its a mile away from how good it should be and certainly doesnt go like it looks which is fantastic. i have been severely underwhelmed with this model. my gearbox works fine but is whiny as is well documented. so whats the best price you have had for a recon replacement and is there an upgrade to make these boxes better and also is it easy to do ?

I got mine reconed for about 460....but then theirs 6 hours recomended for takin the gearbox out and fitting it...so plus that many hours in labour, i got mine done for free cos my bfs a mechanic, but the gearbox had to be sent to easygears in Thornaby North East UK

I had gearox failure last year on my cooper, it cost a total of £1368, that was 17hours labour taking gearbox out fix it and fit new clutch etc and with an inspection cost of £75 as i was under warrenty but it got declined as mechanical failure.

Sanny - Thornaby's my home town never heard of easygears tho.

TOP GEAR in rutherglen, glasgow . will do it for 180+vat . bearing in mind (get it ? ) that mine is driving fine and just whiney. they do a lot of them and say its the main shaft bearing that needs replaced. so still on the phone sourcing cheap places and will add them as i go !

Just had a recon box fitted, was £1100 for the box, just under £200 for the clutch, and a bargain £200 for fitting!
