Question Performance Parts

I have a 2004 Mini Cooper Non-S. What parts would you all want or currently have installed on your Non-S's?

And what do you think of the parts that you have installed?

I'm just looking for which way I should go.

It depends what you'd like to achieve? Would you like to make it quicker and/or better handling and/or better looking? There are so many things you can do, it's hard to know where to start without a bit more info.

Is your MINI a pre or post-facelift Cooper? (ie, was it built before or after July '04?)

Tigger.

Pipercross Viper CAI induction kit - not the cheapest or the noisiest but well made and cuts out the problem of sucking hot air into the engine.

Superchips Bluefin - very easy to install/remove and gives a nice little increase in torque at 4000 rpm and above plus a lot smoother driving round town.

Milltek Cat-back system - very nice tune when giving it beans and easy to live with when not. Will last a lifetime being stainless.

Eibach -30mm springs - Made a really noticeable difference in handling and ride (more compliant) than my SS+ set up. Nice looks too.

OMP Lower brace - keeps the front end tighter around bends and over pot holes. Well worth £40.

GTT Upper Brace - Very well made and even though not the cheapest on the market I would say it is one of the best and certainly makes a lot of difference to the suspension working as it should, and also eliminates a lot of dash rattles. Would buy again.

Magnecor leads and Denso Iridium Plugs - Doubt about power increase but the leads look good, are well made and a set of new plugs can't hurt.

Whalen Shift Machine - not really a performance part but certainly makes gear shifting a lot smoother and takes 2mins to fit.

OMP Upper Brace - wouldn't bother. Had it fitted for a few days and although it may make some difference to handling it never really fitted right even with the bonnet liner removed. Could see pressure marks on the bonnet when closed. Now hanging up in the back of the garage.

Hope thats some help and Merry Christmas too........

I ran the GTT Upper and GTT front lower brace for about 16,000 miles before adding the GTT mid brace to mine. I noticed the additional improvement straight away, it's well worth considering adding it to what you've already got

Cheers Tigger,
Want to make a booking at GTT early new year to get my discs and pads replaced so will look into the mid brace while I'm there.

Preface lift and I want to be quick, i dont care too much about handling. Haha that sounds pretty stupid for a Mini Cooper. Will an Atla Lightweight crank pulley fit a Non-S or is that a stupid question? Im open to anything engine wise.

Im in America btw.

I had a pre-facelift Cooper before the current S and I absolutely loved it It was fine handling and had enough power to make it a lot of fun The handling was so good it often felt like it could use a bit more

Unfortunately, with the Midland Gears gearbox on the pre-facelift Cooper, I wouldn't look for much more power; with 115 bhp it's already performing fairly close to its power limit. Another 10-15 bhp from a combination of a chip and induction kit is about as far as I'd recommend.

If it's power you are looking for, It's worth checking what it would cost to trade a still standard Cooper for an S before you start spending too much money on the Cooper.

Like I said before:

If you want to install certain parts (no turbo or supercharger), you can always go this way:

Software (+5/6 hp)
Intake (+1/3 hp, it depends whether it's a cold air intake or not)
Headers (+ 10Nm -> Supersprint, Milltek, ...)
Cams with software (+7/8hp)
Exhaust (Eisenmann, Milltek, Janspeed, Bastuck, ...)
Gasoline cooling
Polished cilinder heads

Greetings

Der Abt
