HPI Check

Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie to Mini2

I put down a deposit on a Used mini cooper from a private dealer in south London. The car has done 23500 miles on a 51 plate. I think I've got myself a nice little bargin for £7k but a friend of mine has told me to be cautious as its such low mileage. It might have been clocked (Changed Instrument clusters etc.)

I'd love some opinions from the Mini experts please? Bargin or fraud?

whats the spec of the mini in question? as your title suggests run a hpi check of the car. if you are worried about milage ask to check the service booklet, it should have milage noted of every service undertaken. good indicator that there is nothin dodgy going on.

I've just been told the HPI check came back clear.
The service book only has two stamps. One is the PDI at Holland Park and the other is a Non mini garage in London with an Inspection 2 stamp for June 2007. All the TLC Vouchers are still in the booklet in tact!

Do you think its reason to be cautious about the history and mileage?

I would wonder why they have had the service done at a non-dealer when they've got TLC vouchers!?? Also, who did the hpi...don't trust anyone!!

ALTHOUGH SHE NEEDS A BIT OF GUIDANCE, LESLEY WILL BE MY BIATCH FOR NOW...!

the tlc vouchers are void after 5 years so i think thats prob why a service was done at a non-bmw garage. id be asking why no vouchers where used for the 5 years. it does make a difference buying/selling.

My TLC book also had all the voucher things in but all the relevent work had been done. If you're in doubt you could phone a mini dealer and they can tell you if its had the relevent things done.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a six year old car that may have only ever been serviced once.

A quick comparison to the MINI Cherished website shows that £7k for a 23,500 mile Cooper (similarly priced cars at MINI dealers are all 50k+ miles) is about right though.

To be quite fair, there are many low mileage genuine cars,

Ring up the independent garage that serviced it, and check that they actually did, and at what mileage.

As long as the service history doesnt indicate any higher mileage, sounds a bargain, although i agree with Scrogg, i personally wouldnt buy a car with that little service history.

Or you could check out my 03 Mini One with 34k on the clock with full Mini Service history!

Thank you but I've already put the deposit down or I would be very interested.
I think I will get it checked out by the Mini Garage I used to work at, Just for peace of mind.

As a guide line cars should be serviced roughly every 20,000 miles or every year. You should not trust anybodies HPI check but your own. With computers these days with the old cut and paste you would never tell. I have just checked mine on the official HPI website and it cost £19.99 and they are doing an offer with Norwich Union that you get 1 weeks free insurance and you dont have to take out a policy.

Personally I think you will find a better 1. Unserviced cars have not been looked after or have something to hide.
