Cooper vs Ford Probe

Yeah, I realize there is no comparison but I want to hear peoples thoughts about the power between the two models. My Fiance has a 1994 Ford probe so I am familiar with it. I believe its a 2.0 4 cylinder with about 115HP. I think its weight is also very similar to the Cooper.

I test drove the Cooper and the Cooper S. After I was done the Cooper S was the only model for me. To me the Cooper was not as powerful as I was hoping. Problem is the test drive that the dealer lets you go on is so short and on busy city streets so I can't really get a feel for the power of the car.

So does anybody have any experience between the Cooper and a later model ford probe? For the price difference (which is not that much when I add the sports package because I would be happy with a base MCS) I am thinking possibly I could be happy with a Cooper.

Oh, lastly what are peoples thoughts on the Cooper being more reliable than the Cooper S? What ever I get I keep cars a long time...

Thanks,
Kenny

I had a 96 Probe

And traded it for a Suzuki and got increased performance. The reason I traded it was because there was not enough headroom for the new hubby to fit, but we were both surprised at how much faster the Suzuki ran.

The MINI, even the CVT, would blow the doors off. And the hubby fits in the MINI.

I know, reminds me of a bad joke:

What kind of car does a proctologist drive?

I think no answer is really needed.

Red face

>Ford Probe... LMAO!!!

Never said the car was good. Actually its under powered and no fun to drive. But it has been the most reliable thing with 94k miles, never a problem, and smooth on the highway even over 90mph. (At least it is not my car )

I am just trying to see if any body else has ever had a similar year probe and can compare the power to the Cooper. If its the same then the standard cooper won't be as fun as I was hoping. Sure it may look awesome but...

Sorry to drift so far off topic, Kenny. But my Probe was a 96 model with a manual 5 spd; My MC has the CVT. In my opinion, the MC has quite a bit more power than the Probe had.

Oh, I guess it may also be important to note that when I test drove the Cooper there were 3 adults in the car. Me, my fiance, and the Sales man. Would that make a huge difference? When I drove the Cooper S it was just me and a Sales woman.
