Offline | I'm a virgin ... .. to the new MINI. Firstly hello to everyone here, from what I have seen a very useful and informative site. MY GF has decided its time for a new car and looking whats about we can't find anything better looking than the new mini so we are ordering one this weekend ... A couple of questions from a newbie ... 1. What is the service interval ? 2. Anyone got pictures of a Cosmos black cooper ? 3. Experience of the Harman Kardon upgrade - is it worth it ? 4. I have an IPAQ, what can be done with this ? 5. How do you re-program bits as mentioned is FAQ's - e.g. Auto door locking, follow me home lights etc. Thanks in advance boys and girls! |

Offline | Welcome to MINI2 ![]() Check out my gallery by clicking on the camera icon at the bottom of my post, I used to have a cosmos black cooper ![]() With regards to your Ipaq you can get a satnav "jacket" for it e.g. Navman, TomTom etc. Save's you getting the ugly factory fit one ![]() To re-program bits you need your dealer to sort this out but watch out as there have been cases when people have been charged for this ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. Offline | On question 3 (Harman Kardon stereo): I've done a review/tutorial which should be posted here soon, or you can click HERE. It is an excellent stereo, but for certain tastes. 1. It seems more oriented towards the audiophile market than the ghetto-blaster market. The bass and treble aren't as exaggerated as some would like. 2. For its best-sounding modes, it uses the back speakers as woofers and subwoofers and the front arrays for mids and tweeters. If you understand that, you'll be fine in a purchasing decision. 2nd "Go not to the elves for counsel for they will say both no and yes." Offline | Thanks for you help people. I have a NAVMAN Jacket for the IPAQ but doubt I will use it as the GF only drives round town (not literally!) and to work and back (10mins). I will be taking a look at those pictures whilst whilst eating my desert! ![]() |

Offline | Are you happy with the Cosmos Black over the solid black ? Does it disguise the stone chips at all ? I will add just one more thing, I can't believe how much you can do and has been done to the new MINI. Only problem now is I am tempted for her to buy the S, but she doesn't really need it, it would be more for me. |

Offline | My Cooper had standard skirts too ![]() Cosmos black IMO is far better then solid black as solid black looks dirty very quickly. The sparkles in cosmos black hide the dust better and do make chips less obvious ![]() I do like black cars and would've gone for an all black S if it were done in cosmos black but alas they only do it in solid ![]() Black also has the advantage of hiding tar/rubber spots well. I spent an hour over the weekend removing these from my DS paintwork ![]() Colour coded skirts/wheelarches????? I've never thought of that.... would look pretty good on a black car i think ![]() If you don't really need the extra power don't go for the S. The Cooper is more then enough fun in its own right ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

Offline | I haven't heard the Harman Kardon system but tomorrow I'm going to enquire about the Sound Module which was in the MINI accessory brochure they sent me on Friday. I think it's a bit more expensive than the HK system but sounds more to my tastes. |

Offline | Sound Module ?? What does that involve and what do you need in your MINI to 'ave it' ? When you say to your taste what exactly do you mean ?? Is the HK a bette stereo with improved sound. I dont expect it to vibrate the car like a JL 12W6 would! |

Offline | I don't have the brochure with me at work, but from my memory the soundmodule works in conjunction with the standard MINI stereo, but adds an amp. which makes the system 4x70 watts. It mentions a couple of 16cm cones being put in the back, and upgraded speakers in the front. Having read what a few people have said about the HK system (ie lot of sound coming from the front 'like a concert'), the Sound Module although more expensive sounds a better bet. I'll tell you exactly what the brochure said when I get home tonight. If you do a search for 'modul*' in the ICE forum you should get up some info on the sound modul (as mini call it). Offline | That's because it's a dealer fit and not a factory fit. Hence the higher cost then the H/K ![]() If you use the search function you'll find some reviews of the H/K and Sound Module ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. Offline | The soundmodul doesn't include a headunit. It's meant to work in conjunction with the MINI sound system, so you add the £450 to whatever upgrades you've already got (i.e BOOST, CD, MD etc.) So added to my current spec, the total would be £655 (BOOST + CD + Soundmodul). Wow that sounds like a lot. Think about the aftermarket stuff you could get for that... |
