Offline | how do you switch the new fogs on? are they operated from the existing front fog lamp switch or do they provide another one somewhere? The police up here must be getting bored, I got pulled up for driving with my fogs on the other night. I think that front fogs are better than normal headlights as they do not blind anyone. I may get the fogs myself, is this price £244 a mini dealer price? Post pics when complete please. |

Offline | i dont think the new spots ARE extra fog lights,....I thought that they were extra driving lights, similar to the extra lighting that may be fitted to a rally car for night stages,...but smaller,..obviously!! Tony 'SONIC' - '53 Mini Cooper, Pepper White - Just arrived |

| cook pass babtridge | you're right anthony, they are extra driving lights which come on when you use full beam headlights which means you dont get to use them too often (unless you live in the middle of nowhere) but they look good. £244 fitted doesn't sound too bad. i had them fitted by the dealer prior to taking delivery of the ar & they were £270. i'm sure you can get after market ones fitted a lot cheaper though |

| Hangin at the Krusty Krab | Actually, front fogs do dazzle oncoming drivers (and the driver in front), which is why it's illegal to have them on unless visibility is less than 100ft (or metres, I can't remember - anyway it's a lot less than folk appear to think). I understand that the maximum penalty is a £1500 fine for lighting offences, with is actually a bigger problem than speeding but the police don't consider it a priority (yet). Front fogs are high intensity lights designed so shine under the fog, but when there is no fog, they still shine sufficiently upwards to dazzle - I also think they are not subject to the left bias of normal headlights (in the UK) hence they give the impression of better light coverage but are just dazzling oncoming drivers. However, some cars do have driving lights which if they are not high intensity lights are legal for normal conditions (although I think they can still only be used with sidelights on, not dipped beams) - it's a bit of a minefield, but if you have lights designated as "fogs" they should only be used in poor visibility, not for normal driving - this is why the extra spots only come on with full beam headlights (I got there in the end). Note that dazzling headlights are a particular hazard to oncoming motorcyclists (the visor can make it worse) which is why I have a particular beef with folk incorrectly using fogs. |
