Ride Quality??????

Please give your comments on the ride quality of your minis. With 17" s-spokes and ss+

Does your coopers feel solid?
Are there any squeeks/rattles?
Does the interior feel tinny and plasticy?
Compare it to your previous cars!

Just curious cus aint got my mini yet (2.5 weeks to go) I drive a Saxo VTR at the moment and that is realy plasticy and tinny with LOTS of rattles and is only a 51 reg. Its a typical french car.

Just your thoughs please! THX

No offense but have you looked around/searched the forums at all? Every one of those questions has been covered in great detail many times over. Surfice it to say you won't find a common consensus due to different expectations and needs.

OK, I've got 16 inch alloys with runflats and SS+

Feel solid? Certainly.
Rattles? Yes, that's my only complain.
Interior? There is plastic everywhere, but it's definitely a quality thing (I've got alloy patina and black leather). Simply beautiful.

The only car which I could compare the Mini is my previous Audi A2. Not that it is comparable (it isn't) but because the A2 was my first car.

So, in the A2, when you've got aluminum pieces, that's real aluminum not like my alloy patina pieces... And the A2 hasn't developped even one rattle in two years. So, I would say that quality is a bit better, even while the plastics used on the dashboard and on the doors don't look as good as those used on the Mini. Otherwise, there is not comparison as I said. Mini handling is so good with SS+ that when you drive other cars, you say "what a bad car" :-) So go with the SS+ and 17 inch if you like them.

17" with SS+, fantastic the car corners like it is on rails!

Who needs ASC+T?
There is the odd rattle, but then I have a child seat in the back. Get it, it is as near an S as you can get for a coop.

ive got 17" runflats with SS+ and would highly recomend it - I dont seem to have any rattles yet, well not annoying ones, no problems after 15,000 miles ...

Black/White Cooper -17", ss+, clear lenses, park distance, visibility pack, chili patina pack.

I too have just ordered my MINI and I currently drive a Saxo. The difference in quality between the two cars is amazing. A MINI feels like a quality car whereas with the Saxo I agree with your description of being "tinny". Also, the MINI makes me feel so much safer as it is so stable on the road and it has great brakes too. I'm assumming you have driven the Cooper before ordering so what do you think of it compared to your VTR ? I have never been in a VTR (mine is a 1.1)

For tyre and wheel info (16 vs 17's, SS vs SS+) on the Cooper take a look at...
http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...ighlight=ss%2B

As for rattles, I'm having one of the front speaker grille's replaced, and that's it.

The build quality of the car (compared to previous VW and Ford) is far superior. The dashboard is plastic, but not lightweight cheap plastic (as found in many european cars).

Does your cooper feel solid? Yes, definitely.
Are there any squeeks/rattles? Yes, loads and after 3 weeks this is already making me want to get rid of the car...
Does the interior feel tinny and plasticy? No, feels rather high quality
Compare it to your previous cars! I have a 15yr old VW Polo that has less rattles at 89k miles... my 10yr old 911 also had less rattles.

FYI: Its a Dec 02 Mini cooper with 8500mi and 17" wheels on runflats

I think I'll try changing to Toyo Proxes before I give up on the car completely. Alternatively I am looking at getting some 16"s too.

I think alot of the rattles have gone with the slight improvement of build quality in the later 2003 models and above. Also the 17" wheels wont help with things. Still, a continuous rattle can really get on my tities (.) (.) and there are always the more rattlerly of MINI's

One Month Old, 1100 miles - rattles yes but who cares, music up and just enjoy the drive. You will never get another car for the price that turns so many heads and drives so good!

Are we nearly there yet?

Does your coopers feel solid?
YES
Are there any squeeks/rattles?
YES lots, but nothing the Air Con and Stereo don't usually cover up.

Does the interior feel tinny and plasticy?
NO, feels very good when the door shuts.

Compare it to your previous cars!
Not MY cars but cars I've driven considerably.

1997 Merc C Class 180 Auto Esprit. Unsurpassed build Quality.

2000 BMW 318Ci Auto. Good builty quality and a bit of fun.

1996 Isuzu Trooper 3.1 Turbo Diesel. Very Plasticy, I hate driving high up

2002 Kia Sorento. Lexus Exterior looks, Kia interior looks feel etc. Also see above.

1996 Ford Transit Pick up. <--- Nuff said!

Mk IV (I think) Golf GTI. <-- Yuk!

Mk V Golf 1.6. <-- Double Yuk!

Put it this way I'm ordering another with same Suspension (SSP or SS+) and 17" S Spokes(was even looking at 18's but £2500 puts them way out of contention)

Bloody hell you've only just bought that car haven't you ?

My aftermarket CD player rattles, thats about it, I have 16" ss+

It is a quality piece, although the painted plastic door arm rest near the door storage bay, is succeptable to rings on fingers etc. The paint can just rub off over time. It could do with a piece of leather or something.

adios

Wrenny, yes, but it belonged to a friend beforehand, so Ms Rattle (as I now call her) is actually 10 months old (8.6k mi).

To be fair, I wonder whether it depends on the weather. Yesterday I went for a drive and didn't hear a single rattle!
