Angry My Mini's First Bump

Last Saturday a friend's neighbour reversed into the rear side panel on the driver's side of my Mini. It doesn't look too bad but when I took it to the Mini body workshop they gave me an estimate of £766!!! They've got to replace the whole panel. His car (Audi TT) hasn't got a scratch on it!!

I trust Mr. Audi will be paying for it. Still it really bites to get you'r car hurt. Good luck with the fix.

Yes he's going to pay for it with his own money, he doesn't want to involve his insurance company (he must want to keep his no claims discount).

As a general guide, if the damage to a panel is larger than a paperback book (not an Archer tome) then the panel will need replacing.

Sorry to hear it and hope its back to new ASAP but please tell me your not really surprised that a rear side panel buckled while a bumper didn't ... I certainly would hope his Audi didn't get damaged, considering it would have been his bumper that took the force.

Thanks for all your sympathy guys! It's booked in for the repairs on Monday, apparently it's gonna take them about 3 days to do the work.

I spoke to "Mr Audi" again the other day and he told me that he didn't bother to defrost his rear window. I just find it unbelievable that he started to reverse when he couldn't see where the hell he was going!!

Cost over $700 when a neighbor's kid tried to squeeze her car between my Mini and a pickup in a four foot space. Bumper was scratched, but they had to re-paint the whole thing. Kid's parents paid for it themselves too, not wanting to get the insurance company involved. What a pain though. Had to leave my Mini with the dealer for four days. Gave me a loaner Mini which was kind of fun.

They didn't make cars like they did in the old days! MY friend has a 76 El Camino, heavily modified with a big block V8, all kinds of roll bars, shocks, and the coolest thing, a 50m.p.h. front bumper made out of solid steel. IT's huge block of steel! I think it weighs around 200 pounds. Crazy, but any accident less than 50m.p.h., he'll drive away from, while the car in front will be totaled!

A front bumper like that is probably illegal in the UK, the main reason is that it would kill a pedestrian if you hit one.
