Cooper questions

Hi guys,

Firstly, let me say great forum - there's a good community spirit here

Me and the missus are on the verge of ordering a Cooper. We're going for a test drive on Saturday and expect to be placing a order for one. I was wondering tho, if someone could be so kind as to clear a few things up for moi.

1)Engine noise - in a couple of reviews, I've noticed that there's quite a bit mentioned about engine noise after 3.5/4K revs. At the moment, we own a Corolla Tsport with an engine loud enough to wake up the dead!. We do a few miles at motorway speeds and as our hearing is still recovering from the Corolla, we don't fancy the same kind of noise again.

2)Dealer - obviously, there's little leeway for negotiating a discount for the car, but what are the chances of getting something else thrown in (TLC pack for example) - our local dealer is Vines of Guildford, so if anyone has any experience of getting any goodies from them......

3)Aircon - is it worth splashing out the extra 200quid for the auto aircon?

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

Andrew

With regards to free tlc you should be able to get it free.

I asked my local dealer and they said no, I replied that i bet I could find another local dealer who would, and then they decided to give it to me free, funny that!

They won't want to miss a sale over something so small

I think that you will find it really good highway car. Where I livein the country, The closest Mc Donalds is about 300km away. So When i'm in the Mini it's for a long time. I find it quiet and comfy. Although I have fitted sound proofing to the rear hatch floor and the doors and now the front wheel wells. Even without this, the car was quiet. Now it is actually quieter than my parents new 318i

Tlc should be free i wish i had known this. Nothing is ever off the price but you may be able to get super guard and rubber mats thrown in. It depends on the value of your order. Each time you want an extra spec ask for something else free. there is a thread on here on the search about free stuff. I think manual air con is fine. Put the money towards the visability pack which i think is far better value. No scraping in winter and auto wipers.

I got some white indicator repeaters and alloy footrest! They're really generous these MINI dealers!!

It varies from dealer to dealer. No harm in trying though - TLC ISN'T free, it's just it seems to be one of things a lot of people get thrown in if they ask.

Climate Control is well worth the extra, you get a good looking set of dials on the dash on top of hassle free operation

Not sure if they call it tlc in america. It stands for tender loving care and is an extra over here costing £100 although some people blag it for free. It basically gives you three years servicing for the £100 which is great value.

Hello, with regard to the noise issue, i do not think the Cooper is bad at all. And yes you should get the Climate ! Hope this helps, Damian.

1) All the MINI's I have driven I have found to be very well insulated and sound no different to my dads 320D BMW. If you rev the Cooper over 4,000 rpm then the sound does pickup but in a sporty way which suits the car IMO.

2) At my dealer there isn't much chance of getting anything for free, and not so long ago it wasn't rare to find dealers selling MINI's for more than the normal price. Still, you should try it - you never know they might throw something in for free.

3) You didn't have a flag under your name so I'm not sure where you are from. If you are from the UK I would say that you never need auto air con to an extent where you pay extra for it. If auto air con came standard I wouldn't mind it but otherwise I wouldn't pay more. Also, the air con is said to drain a fair bit of power off the Cooper - so I know I would have it turned off most of the time and would pretty much use it like manual air con.

In the US, three years maintenance is included with all cars at no charge.
