United-Kingdom Need To Make An Urgent Decision !!

Placed an order in March for a MC told that the next delivery would be July/Aug and I I will get a facelift model, just got a call from my dealer telling me he has a few slots available in June but it will be the current model rather than the facelift version ??
Need to decide by tomorrow if I take a June delivery or wait for the Jul/Aug for a facelift model, dealer also mentioned today that the facelift model might cost more ??

What should I do ??? Wont be able to sleep tonight !!!

Take a good look on here (do a search) at the face lifts and decide if you like them.

I would probably go for this years myself 'cause I'm not sure about some of the changes, but, for the sake of a month or two, you could be getting the latest model mind.

Not much help am I !

I went for the current model, after waiting for ages..........

Decided I perferred the current 'classic' look to the facelifted version...........

I'm not keen on the changes, too much of change for changes sake if you ask me.

Definitely try to do as much of a side-by-side as you can -- lots of information in here if you search on "facelift." I like some of the changes -- seems like every iteration, MINI is fixing some of the little niggles that have been plaguing earlier models. One change I like is the option to get the speedo over the steering wheel, next to the tach (I hope I read that correctly). I now NEVER use the big speedo b/c it's too awkward for me, so I have to rely on the digital speed read-out.

As for resale, it's a bit of a risk either way. Many car models are filled with positive advances in some years, and definite retractions in other years (for example, the Mustang has had some great model years and some truly nasty ones). The '04 model has been quite well-received; no idea yet how the "facelift" will be received -- a positive advance that will improve your resale value, or a mistake that will decrease it?

In the end, you gotta go with the one that you like best -- so, use this forum to do your homework.

But, my advice (since you asked!) is not to let a mere month's difference in delivery date dominate your decision. Choose the current '04 because you like it better, not because you can get it 30 days sooner -- presumably you will drive this car for a while! Conversely, don't pass on the facelift (if you prefer it) merely because you are impatient!

Look at that little S car go! [Sold 2/06]

how do the stealers work out the delivery date? we ordered our MC on 27/03, so same month as you, and our delivery date is penned in for 14/05

we thought about waiting for the facelift but there wasn't enough there for us to warrant the wait

Just ordered a new MCS and the delivery date is mid July and my dealer has told me its will probably be one of the faclifted ones.....

From what I have read in Mini2.com the differences outside are minimal (spoiler, lights etc..) and on the inside are just things like better seats etc... Only thing I dont like is the stupid chronometer display in the middle but thats optional anyway....

Just curious what it is you dont like???

if you decide to go for the 'old' model you should be pushing for a discount to offset the reduced resale value. basically the dealer is trying to get rid of old cars & he should give you some incentive to do this

if ti was me i'd be going for the new one. dont forget a lot of quality issues are also fixed on facelifts & model year changes, things which arent always obvious on the surface.

I'm new to the whole mini thing, so were there a lot of quality issues with the current model?

Thinking of getting in contact with my dealer to even delay it if needed to make sure i get one of the new ones....

To be honest the only thing I dont like is the fact that the chrome strips (bumpers) from what I can see are not on the new model, based on the pictures of the convertible which has the new front which look similar to the Cooper S front, I really liked the current Cooper front. I just wish the dealer had not called !! As I cant wait to get it and 4 weeks is a long time when you are waiting !!

Anyhow I have decided to wait but thanks for all your comments. The really annoying thing is the dealer has no information on the changes, the new price, the type of wheels etc.

I dont think there are any major issues with the current model, a friend of mine has a MCS, in 14 months he has done 24k miles and it has been in the garage for 40 minutes for a routine oil change, I think this is a very really reliable car. I think your decision needs to be do you like the changes ?? Are you worried about residual values ?? rather than worrying about quality issues. I Just cant wait !!!

Umm, glad I spotted this thread.. my delaer has made absolute no comment regarding a face lift model - I feel a little bitter about it now.
