Chrome Insert

Guys,

Just wondering if someone can explain in detail what the chrome line bumpers are. Are they located on the back and front?
Also, does anyone have picture for Pure Silver Cooper with and without the chrome inserts?

Thanks

As the name implies , they are the lines of chrome fitted into the front and rear bumpers of MINI Ones and MINI Coopers (not available on the S).

Couldn't find a silver car with and without but, here’s a Indi Blue MINI One without chromeline rear bumper inserts:

And here’s a Pure Silver MINI Cooper with the chromeline rear bumper inserts:

You can't get the chrome strips on the Cooper S because of the different bumper shape. Here are pics of my car with the chrome bits on the bumper, they do look really good. They are worth spending the money on.

On a sunny day, with the chrome glinting, the car looks all the better for it......

Does anyone know if the chrome inserts can be bought separately? Reason being mines been creased slightly by an invisible wall...

Cheers,

Dom

Looks like I'll get that replaced at it's first service then, due in a week or two. Also gotta replace the rear passenger side arch trim, after some kind person scraped it for me. Think they'll be putting the union jack and bonnet stripes on at the same time. They're gonna be busy!!

Dom, let me know how it goes with the chrome inserts. I was thinking of adding them after the fact, but my dealer wasn't sure if it could be done (I'm in Canada and the cars have just started arriving)...so if anyone is certain this can be done, I'd appreciate hearing about it!

Beaware that the whole [plastic] bumper must be removed before the inserts can be replaced, as they are *glued* to the bumper on the inside [of the bumper]..

I removed all the black plastic arches etc. on my Cooper on Thursday aswell as the bumpers... I've taken like 50-60 pictures of the job - so if you need any information or pictures of this - please let me know.

I was told by a dealer in London (I phoned him from Canada!) that you can buy the chrome inserts, snap off the clips on the back and glue them over the body-coloured bumps on the bumpers. They've done it with 4 or 5 cars already

Actually, that is the only way to change them...

You have to unscrew the plastic bumpers (might also need to remove some of the plastic wheel arches at the rear too - I have to verify this from my pictures (got them at work)...

The bumpers are fairly easy to remove - only 8-10 bolts at the front and perhaps 6-8 at the rear.. Front should take about 10 minutes to remove - the rear might take longer due to arches..

Anyway, one the bumpers are off (mind the wiring for the rear backing/reversing light and the temprerature gauge/probe in the airdam on the front) - break off the "studs" on the bumper-inserts from inside the bumpers and remove/cut open any glue that might hold it in place..

Fit the new bumper inserts and glue the "studs" inside the bumper with silicone or a glue-gun (you know the electric ones that melt the glue etc.)

The dealer in Heathrow told me it is a lot easier than that. It was just a matter of breaking off the clips on the back of the chrome inserts (all three for 38 pound sterlingf) and glueing them to the 'bumps' on external part of the bumpers. No bumper removal necessary.

(and although it does sound unprofessional to do it this way, if I can't order it from the factory like this if I get the Sport Package in Canada, it's my only option!!)
