Offline | New Mini Cooper (CVT) MPG My facelifted MINI Cooper is now about a week old. I live in South East London and have done about 70 miles so far.Mainly driving in town and some dual carriageway runs.Mine is CVT.My trip computer is showing 18-19 MPG,at times that even falls to 15.Is that what you would expect for an MC Automatic? Does it get better with time and long drives? I have seen that with longer runs the MPG does improve. For a brand new car people often comment about small particles settling in the engine.Does it affect MPG?If that is the case, should the first service be earlier than those recommended by the dealership? PS 107 miles on clock, and it's showing 19.8 MPG now. Last edited by techiedoc : Jul 24th, 2004 at 06:27 PM. |

Offline | Although my MINI ONE is manual it still only does on average about 30 mpg but virtually all my driving is local and each journey is usually between 3 to 6 miles. Here in Telford its nothing but islands so its point ,squirt,brake......it is fun though.I've got a new MINI ONE on order for september and i was hoping that with the new gearbox and the slightly different gearing it might be slightly better on the economy front...yours does sound very low but having no experience of the cvt i can't comment but i'm sure i've seen another thread with somebody recieving about the same mileage from their cvt.Check with the dealer if in doubt.Hope you get it sorted. |

Offline | I'm getting 26 mpg on my CVT, in mostly highway. But forget about using your trip computer to measure it, as it would only be an estimate that changes drastically often and yours is obviously wrong. Measure mpg manually -- when you fill up just click the mileage button on your speedometer to set it to zero. Then when you fill up again, write down the mileage on some paper and also write down how many gallons it took to fill up. Then divide the miles you drove (from your speedometer reading) by your gallons and you will get your ACTUAL mpg. That is the ONLY way to measure it accurately! I'm sure you will get at least what I'm getting. "Bluebird" 2004 IB/W MC |

Offline | Just saw this thread and watned to add my own: I have the CVT and my hubby has a bit of a lead foot....um, ok, I do too, with this little baby. Anyway, we are averaging 24.5mpg in town. Which Im perfectly happy with. When we first got the car, during the break in time, we were getting 19.5mpg. After my road trip and now that we are over 3000 miles, the 24.5 mpg seems like its here to stay. I am wondering if learning how to use the SD/manual thing will increase our MPG? I'm scared to death to screw up the engine. |

Offline | Thanks afromanbob! I tried to do it the other day and I had no clue what gear to be in when and such. The engine kept revving and well...I was getting some high anxiety, so I stopped doing it. LOL Maybe I should make my hubby take me out and help me figure it out. I know there was a guide here somewhere. Hmmm..maybe I could just print that off instead. That way there won't be some guy cackling at me while I curse a blue streak. |

Offline | Getting just over 28 mpg in mostly local driving. Definitely saw an increase in MPG's while breaking in the Cooper. Using the SD/Manual thing lowers my MPG's because I rev it higher. A lot more fun though, and as afromanbob stated, you cannot mess it up. It won't allow you to shift to an unacceptable gear. Experiment and have fun. |
