United-Kingdom Mini Copper Millage per tank

Hi I have bought a 2001 black and white mini cooper and I am a bit worried about the amount of miles I am getting from a full tank, I have had it 3 weeks and have gotten 240 ,250 ,270 the first week my right foot was quite heavy but I have driven quite slowly for the last two is this normal?

Also sometimes the petrol gauge only goes up to inbetween 3/4 and full has any one else seen this before.

Great car though handles great always driving with a smile even though my pockets are now empty.

Welcome to MINI2

My average is about 7 miles per litre.

It does vary according to driving style, when I go flat out in France it is a lot less, closer to 6 miles per litre.

Also, air cons and heating makes a difference too.

And yes, I had filled up until the pump stopped, only to find the needle was not quite to the top.

Not sure if this help, however, I do not believe your figures are abnormal

The S boys and girls would certainly envy you with those kind of consumptions

My Cooper Cabrio is doing 550 to 600 km (340 to 375 miles) per tankful, on a 50:50 mix of urban crawl and motorway cruising. I'm convinced she's more economical than my old One, but that's not logical!

Enjoy the driving, and welcome to the greatest club in the known universe!

I'm getting about 300 from 45l on my MCSW. Not much but defnitely a big improvement over my RX-8 which used to return about 200 from 55l!

Im in a mcsc and I am appauled at the fuel situation. I'm getting over 20mpg now although doing a fair chunk of around town short journeys it doesn't get above 22mpg.

I think it could do better. I'm hoping it will improve as the miles increase. Currently its only done 1700 miles.

Here's hoping. Although I believe I've helped shell achieve their record profits!

My 2001 cooper used to get 250 miles per tank. My new 05 Cooper gets about 350 out of a tank, although the 05 costs more to fill up

That's my finding exactly! Costs more to fill. I put up a post the other day called "Size of the Tank" because I was experiencing the same. I wonder if it's got to do with the gauges as was suggested to me?

Going to work with the range utility on the OBC and see what's going on!

Strange isn't it, i think it has something to do with the gauge as i'm sure it was dodgy on my 01.

I've got a 2004 Cooper, and normally get about 280 miles from a full tank down to just under a quarter (about 30 pounds worth .... well 28 to be exact!). Thats with no motorway driving! I dont know if thats the normal amount people get, just thought I'd shout out my figures too tho

Actually, my Cooper is proving more economical than my One too:
Average fuel consumption for my One was 7.26 l / 100 km over 28303 km.
Average fuel consumption for my Cooper is 7.11 l / 100 km over 37229 km.

Perhaps I'm driving more sensibly in my old age

on average I get about 330 miles to a tank. Thats about 32 mpg which isn't bad seeing that i drive her quite hard but always use a high RON petrol - Optimax usually.

I get 310 from my 03 Cooper, Quite happy with that. Takes £30 to fill.
Is there a new tank in the 05 model?

I have an 05 MCS and I average between 300 and 350 miles per tank using Esso's Super Premium. I do get on the pedal quite a bit as well so if that says anything. In answer to the 05's tank size I do believe that it is a bit bigger then previous models.

I've just managed to get 13.25km/L (37mpg) out of my MCS with 3000km on the clock. Of course this was on the M1 & M6 driving carefully (read boring ) and not going over 120kph, which technically is still illegal

Resuming my normal driving style, which isn't over mad I expect around 11.5-12km/L (34mpg)

I have also noticed that I can fill the tank of the 05 models right up. On the previous 02 Cooper, once the fuel noozle had cut off, you could very slowly squeeze another 10 litres into the tank. Both cars have 50L tanks so I think that they must changed have the design of the tank to solve this problem.

So the effective range of the MCS is only 50km less than the MC. Still costs more to fill though, as you have to do it more often!

Still waiting for BMW to bring out a decent MIIN diesel. VW group up to 160bhp out of the 1.9 TDi in a Polo sized car. MINI 75max. Anyone else see something wrong with that?

Think it all depends on the typr of driving you do. I,ve got May 04 Cooper & live & work in the same town (all stop start journeys). Usually struggle to reach the 250 mile mark before the light comes on & thats me using BP Ult or Optimax

I have been getting about 420 miles per tank on our 2005 Cooper 5-speed with 50% city and 50% highway driving. It seems like a 2400 pound manual-transmissioned 1.6 liter four should do better than this, but overall I am pleased. Truly a fun car in every way.

Remember it is a 'relatively' old Damliar Chysler design engine. The new PSA one will be better... in all ways apparently!

Absolutely! Here in the US, it wasn't that long ago that anything made by Chrysler or Peugeot was truly awful in terms of reliability. Times have changed for the better. Really looking forward to the new PSA engine. Perhaps a MINI success will encourage them to return to the US market.
