On-board Computer - Average Speed???

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed anything odd about their average speed reading on the on-board computer!

Mine seemed ok, I don't tend to look at it too often, but was just flicking through the readings today, and noticed that my average speed was displaying 1.9 mph... I might not be the quickest driver, but I know I go faster than that!!!

Has anyone else had any problems, all the other readings look ok.

The average speed needs to be reset the same way you reset the average mpg (by holding the button down until you see dashes).

It also takes into account when you are stationary. If the engine is running and you are not moving i.e. 0mph it takes this into account.

Thanks for the info... I reset it, and everything looks ok now.. (didn't know you could reset it, I probably reset it by accident in the first place!!)

Didn't know you could reset the computer will give it a go - yesterday despite driving on 50 or 70mph roads on the way to work, my average speed was 2mph and average mpg was 99.99mpg!

I think the memory fills up and then you get strange readings.... I used to have a long fast commute on dual carriageways, but after a while my average was showing 6mph... when it had been showing over 40mph.... a quick reset did the trick

the only thing is when I calculated manually what my MPG was based on a reset of the Comp then running a tank of fuel, the computer was very optimistic, IIRC the computer said 33.5MPG, I worked it out as 29.7 as an actual, quite a big difference !
