H&R sway bar

Im considering buying the H&R 18mm rear sway bar, i was just wondering who had put it on and how much of a difference it made. I have the ss+ so its already pretty stiff, im just looking to lose some of the understeer that the cooper has plenty of.

Thanks
Austin

I like this idea as well. It's cheaper than a 19mm bar and probably will make the car neutral (especially a SS Cooper). You could remove your front bar or go to the smaller SS bar, but the labor is more intensive than just putting in a bigger rear bar.

From what i have read the rear sway bar is not that hard of task, more time consuming if anything.(correct me if im wrong) but I hear the front is a more difficult task. Do any companies make a smaller front or does the non ss+ suspension have a smaller sway bar in front and maybe i could pick one up from the factory?

if i was u i'd just change the rear bar to the one u decided on the front is hmmmm messy to say the least

I tested my car with a 19mm sway bar on the back an std SS bar up front and it did make quite a difference to how quick the car turned and handled

just checked up and there is a 2.5mm difference between the SS and SS+ front bar

Since you already have the plus suspension, removing or changing the front sway bar to SS will keep you in your stock class (H) for autocross. If you move up to a bigger bar in the rear you will need to move to STS, which is much tougher. If you don't autocross or don't plan to, then it's not an issue, unless you worry about your dealer questioning your mods. The labor on the front is at least double the rear. I remember someone saying that it took them 6 hours to do the front.

Here's an old H&R thread that mentions the 18mm bar: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...highlight=18mm

Autocrossing is a great way to learn about the limits of your car and improve your skills as a driver. It's you against yourself, just ignore the times of others and compare your own times. It's a lot of fun.

Let us know when you get your sway bar and give us your impressions.

The only way to improve your Autocrossing skills is to autocross. It really is a terrific program the SCCA puts on, anywhere near you and it is an awesome way to spend the odd Sunday.....CHEAP to boot!!!
