Hi Bezza123'

I'm a little too new to be dispensing advise but I too have been looking at accessories to make our upcoming MINI more unique and the billeted metal pedals are one thing we have been eyeballing. I have been perusing catalogs (both online and paper ones) and so far all of the pedals I have seen have safety in mind. Most of them are either grooved or knurled deeply for grip and some even have inserts for foot traction. I really don't believe they would be as popular as they are if they were trully so slick as to be unsafe. Besides, we're MINI owners now (or I will be soon) and we are conscious of these things, right?
Enjoy the metal pedals! You'll love the look.

factory pedals

I recently fitted my 02 MCS with the OEM metal pedals. It was an easy swap, took about 10 min. once I figured out how the unit comes out. The kit comes with the factory dead pedal, clutch, brake, and accelorator pedals. The accellorator is an entire unit that needs to be swapped out. Warning the kit comes with only german instructions, but I was able to figure it out easily. The pedals cost about 130$ US, and I got them from my local MINI dealership. I have seen the other pedals from 3rd party suppliers, and I didn't like them nearly as much as the factory ones.

Anyways hoped that helped.

I have after market metal pedals installed (see my gallery) and I am very pleased with them. They are not slippery at all.

I have not as yet fitted the S pedals to my MC, however I can tell you that it is illegal to have solid metal pedals in the UK. There must be some sort non slip material (usually synthetic rubber) inserts.

In the UK, solid metal is for competition only. I suspect there is also a loop hole in the law here as this effectively can only be picked up at the time on an MOT (unless plod stops you for some other reason and decides to check for legalities). So any recent cars will get away with it until the first MOT.

If you look at the vast majority of after market pedals available over here, they all have inserts. So the last writer's car would be considered to contravene UK MOT law.

I believe but do not know from first hand experience, that the genuine Mini pedal are relatively easy to fit and do not require screwing to the pedal arms. I expect at some point someone will give further info.

Hope this helps?

If legalities are a concern, I know with mine I could easily take them off, throw the black rubber covers back on, and then put them back on after an inspection. Just FYI.
