England Cooper D DPF Regeneration

My wife drove the car home the other day. As she got out of the car the engine cooling fan was running at full speed & she could smell burning around the car. She thought the car was about to catch fire

She called mini & they sent a recovery person to check the car out who ran a diagnostic using a tablet type PC.

As it turns out, all was fine. The DPS was finishing its regeneration causing the noise & smell.

Anyone else get caught out like this?

I guess the moral of the story is "read the owners hand book"

Yes, mine does the same and it is normal. Frequency depends on type of driving - i.e town and traffic, short journeys from cold start will cause the DPF regeneration cycle to occur more often. Mine has only happend twice in 12k but mostly country driving.

Yup, it puzzled me the first time too. I can only say I've noticed the Mini do it two or three times, and about half a dozen or so on the X6. It does make for a worrying time the first time it happens if you aren't expecting it!! Orrible pong too!!
